Logitech MX700 and gaming (need help)

I just bought the mouse and I think it's great for everyday use. However, I tried playing Counterstrike with it and I'm having problems. My reload button is set to be a click of the scroll wheel (MOUSE3). But when in gameplay, clicking the scroll wheel does nothing. In fact, after clicking the scroll wheel, my fire button (the left mouse button, MOUSE1) won't fire! I am using version Windows XP SP1, MouseWare 9.73. I also used the registry fix for gamers that Logitech had on their web site but still no go.

Anybody else have/had this problem?

remove mouseware. i dont use it while gaming at least. disable before you play games anda ll should be fine.

Just got mouse, insatlled mouseware to use all my button (and I could still use one more but I have no idea where they'd fit it in). In-game (tribes2) none of my extra mouse buttons work. I did the ctrl-alt-del and killed EM_EXEC and it still doesn't work. Do you mean actually uninstalling mousewhere to game?

I didn't even install mouseware. I've found it easier and more compatible to configure all your buttons through MS mouse software, that way the functions flow through to your games without having to go through another proggy. Also, make sure you re-bind keys through whatever game you are using to your mouse. Win2k mouse software gives the intended functionality for all the MX700's buttons, so I found no need to install Mouseware (after having hear of problems with it, no reason to risk it). If you are having problems with the buttons go into mouse config under control panel and rebind your keys to a function. This should then carry into games where they are recognized and you can then bind them to a command in your setup screen.

Wow I had quite some typos above 🙂

I'm using XP. When you say "intended functionality" what do you mean? I have my side buttons bound to copy/paste, the others bound to dbl-click, open explorer, etc. Can I do this without mouseware?

Yes, you should be able to do all of that in the windows mouse proggy. You just click a button, then use the drop down menu to select what you want the button to do. What I meant by intended functionality is the default for each button. The thumb buttons are meant for forward/back in applications like web browsers that allow it. The buttons around the wheel mouse are meant for smooth scrolling on documents and web pages. That last button in the middle, I dunno what it does b/c its too far down for me to ever want to use it 🙂

The reason I know the functionalities carry over into games is b/c I used to use a push of the wheel mouse button to close program. This came quite handy for Diablo 2 HC if I ever had lag and didn't wanna die 🙂 I programmed it to close program in windows mouse proggy using a logitech cordless mouse and it would close the program even within Diablo 2. Its probably something to do with the game initialization files. Mouseware probably disables the extra features of the Windows mouse program, but the game is actually referencing the windows file when it initializes. Just a guess.

Well, the windows default mouse applet sure didn't have any such options. But, it's okay, Tribes2 still didn't recognize the extra buttons without mouseware installed, so it's a moot point.
