Logitech MX518

If somebody orders from Amazon let us know if they put you on backorder.
When an item is in stock at Amazon they usually say something like "ships within 24 hours". It looks to me like this mouse is not in stock.

It's not in stock at ChiefValue either.

It says "ships within 24 hrs" for me...

I use the MX1000... does anyone know if the 510/518 have the same kind of tilt wheel?

Do you mean side to side tilt? If that is what you mean, then no, the MX510 doesn't have that feature. Maybe the MX518 does though, I'm not sure.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I've gotten accustomed to it on my MX1000. 🙂 The 518 looks to be the same as the 510, so I'm guessing it's not there, and neither info page mentions anything about it at the Logitech website...

Is it me, or does pictures of the mx518 look like it has dents in it?

It's just you.

No I'm kidding, I saw one at Best Buy. It's just made to look like dents, it's smooth in person.

awesome i've been waiting for this mouse to come out for months ^-^ great price too. my old Logitech Mouseman iFeel's left-click button is messing up on me

Nor does the 518. Pretty much the same style as the mx500 and the mx510. I don't have a 510 but the 518 side to side with my 500 seems a tad lighter and the plastic a little cheaper, not quite as solid feeling. The on the fly dpi switching is neat but completely useless to me as it so drastically changes the reaction speed of the mouse between 400/800/1600 that there is no way I could get used to it in game. 1600dpi is practically uncontrollable to me. I found that I just kept it at 800dpi which the mx510 can do anyway so I am ordering one from Amazon for half the price(or less) of the 518 and may return my 518 to Best Buy which seems to be the only ones with it in stock right now.

Its a cool mouse with on the fly dpi adjustment, but its kinda hard to get used to. Like what pcmax said about 1600 dpi. Its way uncontrollable.
Im probably gonna just get the 510 from chief which seems to be a good price. Beats the $53 I paid for the 518 anyway.

one7, how do you like the MX 1000. I'm tempted to get one, but worried about the lag time during gaming. I play games like Far Cry, Doom 3, HL2, Call of Duty, etc.

I may be the wrong person to ask, usernamemax20charact. Not a gamer myself. But I can tell you that I _love_ the MX1000. I spend a lot of time on the computer, and cannot notice a difference between this and any corded mouse I've used. The ergonomics are great, and I love the features (tilt wheel, customizable buttons, excellent wireless reception.) But like I said, I cannot attest to it for gaming purposes... beyond the occasional Empire Earth or Rise of Nations bout, I don't do much of it... sorry.

So, for day to day stuff (web surfing, MS Word/Excel, email, etc) it's fine? No difference to wired mouse? Guess I'll have to pick one up then. Thanks for the response.

Sure thing. 🙂 No difference that I can tell in day-to-day use. I do, however, notice a distinct improvement over the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer wireless I used to use (the one that came with the MS Desktop Elite.) The RF responsiveness is much better with the MX1000 over the MS.

btw, ChiefValue has them for $53 shipped right now. Although if you have some concern about whether you'll like it, you may want to pick one up at the local store in case you find it doesn't suit you... good luck!
