The MX518 uses a laser and it's much higher precision than the LED based MX510.

Wrong, the MX518 uses the same optical as the MX510, the MX1000 is the only laser mouse they make. The difference is the MX510 is a set 800 dpi. The MX518 is adjustable from 400 to 800 to 1600 dpi. I personally found 1600 dpi uncontrollable in games and took it back and bought a MX510 for a third of the price at the time.
