I was wondering if the optical mouse eye was upgraded enough to where I would notice a difference between the two. Because I like the surface of the MX500 but I don't want to get that if the MX510's laser is noticably better. Please reply ASAP. Thanks.

My guess is that 99% won't notice the difference.......but you could be among the 1% :p

I like the looks of the blue MX510, it's a shame it will cost $70 to get one here from EUROPE. ;(

That's odd. I'm in Hungary and we have them for around 11-12000 Ft = ~$50-55, and iirc it's something like that in the US as well. Of course, this is excluding the 25% sales tax ( :( ), but I believe that's Hungary specific.

I finally found one at BB for $49. I had the original optical Logitech (BD-53). Nice mouse.

If the 510 is $70, then why waste your money on that if you can buy the cordless MX700 for the same proce if not cheaper?

I'm using both at the same time. Depending on what setting and acceleration you probably won't be able to tell. Some people like teh 500MX surface better also. So just get that one. 510 also has slightly updated drivers that are more programable. Nothing really big though. If you look at Toms Hardware they also compare both, and state that there isn't much of a difference. Also they have designs of the new wireless MX coming out that is truely cordless.

I think I'm going to have to purchase a new MX510 to go with the new 15" Powerbook I just purchased. I really do like the nice blue (or red) color they have too them also. I have an MX700 and am completely satisfied with the product, so I'm assuming the MX510 will be just as great!

I got my MX510 as soon as it came out. I love it. I have another logitech, MX700, and i like MX510 a lot better. Its corded but the higher resolution of the mouse sensor pays off. I do some graphic design so every pixel is very important for me and MX510 is definetly better than the MX700. I heard its better for gaming as well. Either way, both are great but I like MX700 for surfing and stuff, whereas I like MX510 for editing graphics.

Yes, the difference very noticable.

If you move your current mouse quickly the cursor will jump around/go backwards/not move.

With a newer mouse (mx300/500/510) the cursor will move as fast as you can move the mouse.
I cannot make my mx510 jump around no matter how quickly I move the mouse.
