Logitech MX500 or MX510? Which deal?

honestly, i don't recommend getting the mx1000, it isn't really laggy, but it still feels disconnected and inaccurate in fps, but i guess its better then other wireless mice out there

if you do get it though i absolutely recommend you hook it up through the ps/2 connector and bump up the refresh rate to 200 and the other thing to 300; it seems far more precise then through the usb (which can only run at 125, 250, 500, and unfortunately 250 and 500 seem to be a no go through the usb, so ps/2 it is)

I miss the old serial mice.....those suckers lasted as long as 10 years (or longer even) as long as you kept it clean.
The optical mice keep crapping out after a few years or the optical part of it starts going crazy (jumping to the side of the screen)

I asked myself this same question a couple of weeks ago, but I ended up going for the MX500 for ~$28 (Ebay). It's the first quality optical mouse I've owned and it fits like a glove, but after more than a week of using it, I'm still having trouble liking it as much as my beloved Marble Mouse. The main reason I got the MX500 was because the lack of a scroll wheel on the trackball was a real inconvenience in alot of games. But, TBH, I really wish I had seen this little gem before I bought the MX500. Looks to have the same basic, comfortable shape of the MX500, but with a trackball + scroll wheel. Now I'm kinda hoping the MX500 craps out early, so I have an excuse to get another trackball.

By the time it craps out you will get so used to it you will run out and buy a 510. Going from trackball to mouse is a big transition. It'll take some time for aiming in fps games to become natural.

Damn...I just paid $50 for mine 2 weeks ago...of course, when I checked at the time they where $40+ on Amazon so wasn't a huge difference and I didn't want to wait...but $17 less is substantial...oh well...nice post.

Edit: I agree, can't wait for the wired version of the MX1000. I loved the feel of it but have yet to find a wireless mouse I've liked so didn't want to spend $80 on something that may suck...

Does having your trackball be cordless make much of a comfort/clutter differnce? I wouldn't think it would matter much since you don't move the base around much.

How do you keep wireless mice from disappearing? I can't ever find the remote for the TV.
If the wife or kids carried off my mouse and I can't find it I'd be pissed.

Jumped in and bought a 510. Receintly bought a MX700 and love it so I'm going to try the 510 now for another system.

im using the mx1000 and i love it...best mouse ever...only laser (not optical) on market.. 100 times more precise than my previous MX510

I went from an mx 700 to an mx 510, to an mx 1000. The mx 510 is the mouse Im using now. For games, wireless just wont do. The weight, plus the fact that the logitech lazer goes into an idle state a split second after you lift if off the table, makes the mx1000 a pretty bad gaming mouse. Not to mention the same imprecise, laggy feel that reminds me of the mx700. In no way is the mx700/mx1000 anywhere close to the mx 510 in terms of gaming performance.

Get a keyboard that has a scroll wheel on the left side... MS makes one for example....

then u can use your old precious trackball and still scroll.

Actually, I have the Logitech Elite something-or-other keyboard and it has a scroll wheel on the left side, but it's just not the same as having it on the mouse. Anyway, I'll give the mx500 another month or two to grow on me, and if I'm still missing my trackball at that time, it (the mx500) may have to go.

I own a mx700 and mx1000. I have NO LAG when lifting the mouse. NONE, NADA, ZERO! (either mouse) I have heard some of the mx1000's are defective. I love my mx700, and mx1000. I feel bad for the girly men out there who are to weak to move the few extra ounces of mouse. To heavy, pffffft, whatever, laggy?? Must be your computer, I have used both and I experience NO delay. I think people imagine the delay because they won't want to move to the wireless mouse. I didn't like wireless mice either. I could tell with the MS wirless mice (and older logitech) that they just plain sucked. Mx1000 glides just fine for me.
