Logitech MX500 or MX510? Which deal?

Amazon has the MX510 red for $33.59 shipped and PCClub has the MX500 OEM version for $27.99 + tax (newspaper ad for B&M store, it's $29.99 online). Which deal sounds better and are the MX500 and MX510 that different? Amazon charges no sales tax here, and I was thinking of combining with a few more things for the $15 off $150 deal there.

The MX510 is VERY nice. No mouse pad needed (unlike my previous Logitech optical wireless mouse) - it works perfectly on my desktop.
It's hard to describe just how well it fits the hand and how convenient the buttons are. It's far superior to any other mouse or trackball I've used.
With my previous mouse, my hand and wrist would get stiff after a while, not so with the MX510.
Highly recommended.
If you're a little patient, and keep looking around, you may be able to get a better deal on it.

Go with the MX510, it's supposed to be better, by how much, I'm not sure, probably worth the few extra dollars though.

I noticed a huge diff between the MX510 and my MX Duo wireless optical. Much more precise and responsive in FPS.

The 510 is more accurate and in my experiences, doesn't jitter as easily, constantly waking up the darn screen/power saver.

Amazon had the 510 on sale for $23 not too long ago. $33 is ok, but not nearly as good as its gotten.

I paid $39 for my MX510 a few months ago and can't complain about it. Definately the best mouse I have ever owned.

It's a great mouse, as long as you like large mice. If you have small hands, or prefer smaller mice you probably won't like it.

I own the MX700, which is the wireless edition of the MX500. The MX510 is supposedly for accurate, but watch out for the finish. The MX500 has a more textured finish like most mice where the MX510 has a high gloss slick finish. I find myself cleaning the 510 very often and my hand becomes stuck to the mouse like leather to a bare leg. I would reccomend the MX500, but it seems to be selling for even more than the newer 510.

I have the 510, it fits my hand better than the MX700 did. I'm assuming that the 510 is shaped differently from the 500, and the 1000 is different from either. So you should probably also drop by best buy or something & see which one feels better in your hand.

BTW I also luv my 510. I got it a nice mousepad (instead of pressboard desk) & it flies.

It depends on whether you like a heavy mouse (wireless 1000) or a light mouse (corded 510). The light mouse glides much easier. That's why I don't need a mousepad since I got rid of my small but heavy wireless mouse.

hm...guess i'll stick with the wired one.

i tried the mx1000...interesting gadget. i mean it's "laser", sounds cool huh?

but i remember it feels a little bulky. i am used to microsoft's optical, small enough that movement is done more with the fingers than the wrist. is the 510 sized so?

I own the follwing:

MX500 - corded
MX700 - wireless
MX1000 - wireless
MS Optical 3.0 - wireless

The MX1000 handsdown is #1 in my book....good feel and solid. Only had it 2 weeks, haven't recharged it yet. The MX1000 uses FastRF which means its throughput is at USB speed...MX700 uses this also I believe. Internal Li-Ion battery, cradle charger.

MX700 is good for gaming, but I do have a rare jitter problem when working in non-game apps....but in games it never bothered me. Battery lasts about 4 days of 8-5 office use....two AA nimh batts...cradle charger.

MX500 - same performance as the MX700 but is lighter....but I cannot stand the cord anymore....

MS Optical - POS....major lag issue, forget being a sniper with this slug, alkanline batts last 4-6 months. I use it when setting up systems and presentations. I've used 2 of these units....

My $.02

I don't think it's big enough. It's too thin. I'm still using an old Logitech wingman gaming mouse cause I haven't found a newer one that fits my hand better.

Wow. I've never seen so many rave reviews for a mouse. I think I'll get the MX510. I know Amazon had it for a few bucks less in Nov., but wasn't looking for a mouse back then.

Just bought the mx510 today because my ms intellimouse 3.0 died yesterday. Used it for about an hour and it feels awesome. I was really happy with my 3.0, but this mx510 feels a lot more precise.

These are the mice I have owned:

MS Intellimouse Explorer 1.0

MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0

MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0

Logitech MX510

The logitech MX510 is absolutely the best mouse I've ever used. I've also used but haven't owned the MX1000. The MX1000 in my opinion is better than any mouse I've used as well but is at best as good as the MX510. Despite the claims of USB rf transfer rate, in actual use it feels slightly more sluggish. I was really pumped to try it out after reading all the reviews but was disappointed. The MX1000 is also significantly heavier and thus will not glide as easily across your mouse pad.

When they make a wired version of the MX1000 I'll be the first in line, until then I'll stick to my MX510.

(I've used all these mice on my Func Mousepad <---- best mouse pad in the history of the planet)

Yeah, forgot to mention I also own a MX510 and I don't have a single bad thing to say about it =) Seems very accurate, and I seem to be more proficient @ Quake 2 now =) (yes I'm STILL playing Q2 =P)
