Logitech MX1000 owners, you like or not?

I like it at the beginning, however, after 9 months, I decided to buy a G5.

It is a nice mouse, however, it is the first genearation of laser mouse from Logitech. So, there are flaws, such as it goes to sleep too early, too heavy. Also, I found that because of the weight, it could be "stuck" to the mousepad after you don't use it for a little while(but before it goes to sleep). When you move it again, the initial move could cause the cursor to jump to a direction other than where you intended to go(I think it is because the laser that is used in MX1000 doesn't like to have a "shocked"). I thought it was a defect, so I just got a replacement from Logitech. This new one does the exact same thing. I know for sure it is not a mousepad or dirt issue since I tried different mousepads and I cleaned my mouse area pretty well. You can say I am picky, however, to put down ~$50 for a mouse, I expect there is no flaw like that.

If you like wireless, you can buy it and try it out to decide. If you don't like it, return it. Or you could spend a bit more on the G7. I decided that I want my mouse to be awake at all time, so, I bought the wired G5 and I am very happy so far.

The stuck problem is very symptomatic to the sleeping plauge that currently affects all wireless mice... it seems to me that it still isn't good enough.

I use an optical mouse(corded) at work 8 to 10 hours a day. No matter how long I leave it untouched, whenever I move it, it just moves. I hate the lag of the wireless mouse after it sleeps. You just feel like something is missing and something is not right. That's why I decided to go back to wired mouse after using MX1000 for 9 months. The reason I waited so long was because I don't like MS mice with those smooth scroll. It doesn't quite work in FPS games. Also, I wanted a wired mouse that has side scroll. After G5 was released and read numerous reviews, this is the mouse I want and I don't regret a bit so far.

Anybody knows how long before the G7 goes into sleep mode?

No idea on the amount of time, but according to logitech the significantly increased the amount of time, and the reviews I have read confirm this. I too had a MX1000 I just got tired of recahrging battries, and with an 2005FPW you need something with decent DPI to move across it well, so I moved to the G5.

My wife got a 2005FPW (or, rather, I bought it for her), and the DPI issue is quite true - her trashy old optical mouse is really not cutting it anymore. Moving it across the screen is almost painful. I'm tossing around the idea of getting her a G7. Yes, I know it's overkill, but it's a fine mouse that'll last her for a few years.

I use an MX1000 at work in Linux, and I've got no complaints about the sleep mode. I never notice it, and the batteries last forever on a good charge. Neither do my co-workers. No issues with it getting stuck, either. Maybe this becomes more of a problem with FPS games?

Regarding the "stuck" thingie, I am not talking about the cursor is stuck. I am talking about the mouse meet sticks to the mousepad. So, when you push it, the laser beam is being vibrated and the cursor is moved to a different direction as a result. Try moving it slowly from a still position next time and see if you notice the curosor changes direction. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen.

I went to BestBuy to handle the mice and decided against the MX1000, also because I don't like the idea of a battery that can't be changed by the user. I currently have an MX500. I noticed that some of the newer ones don't have all the buttons that the MX500 has. I don't recall which one but I did notice that one had only 1 thumb button and didn't have the buttons to the front and back of the scroll wheel. I use those scroll buttons more that the scroll wheel myself.

I really wonder if the newer mice are any better than the MX518, it's nearly the same as my current mouse and I may just get one of those when a deal comes along.

Maybe it's your mouse pad. I can't replicate this on the cheap plastic Dell mouse pad I have. I've tried several times.

I am sure it is not the mousepad since I tried all kinds of plastic mousepad. I am sure it is the mouse since I tried 2 already(unless both mice are defected). Also, I heard 1 guy said laser doesn't like to be bounced. So, that's why I said it is a flaw in the first generation of the laser mouse.

It doesn't happen all the time. But it does happen to me quite often. How new is your MX1000? If the mouse feet is worn, it happens more.

I've had an MX1000 since they were released. When the G5 came out, I bought one, but found I still liked the MX1000 better. The G5, being new, was a lot slicker on the desktop, so I ordered some slicksurf feet for $5. Couldn't be more pleased.

All of the above. :)

Mainly, though, was the shape. I love the MX1000 shape, and am not so crazy about the G series/ MX510/518 etc.

G7 goes p00py after about 8-10 hours use, but it comes with 2 battereies so you can charge one while using the other. This is annoying though b/c you have to change the battery at least once a day, also the G7 battery pack some tiems falls out... very frustrating...... overall screw all mice except mx518 or g5... stick with those 2 and you will not be sorry

I like my MX1000. Yeah, it goes to sleep after a while, but as long as you keep it constantly moving a bit in FPS games, you're fine. I consider myself a fairly good CS:S player, and this mouse is certainly not a hindrance. I love not having to tug on a mouse cord all the time. :D

I didnt like my mx1000, i lifted the mouse to frequently and the laser always went to sleep. Sold it to someone who uses a realy high sensitivity and doesnt move the mouse off the table at all, hes extremely happy.

Waiting on my mx518 atm... R.I.P ms intellimouse explorer 3.0 :)

i like my mx1000

but im undecided if the wireless is worth it. im gladto have one less cord...but at the expense of a power cord and usb cord in a different spot? i'm not sure if i really gained anything.

I prefered the MX1000's shape and weight, but I just got SOO tired of having to worry about if it was charged up on the days that I play WoW all day, and if it was going to run out in the middle of an 8 hours run. So I went with the G5 and love it. Not as good a shape, but the weight cartridges make up for the weight.

I llove my MX1000, if it only had the DPI option and the change on the fly DPI setting like the MX518 it would be the greatest mouse in my opinion.

I used a MX1000 for over a year until the left click wore out. Overall it was good, but I didn't like the non replaceable battery. The ability to keep charged AA's on hand was a godsend for the MX700.

I then sold the RMA replacement (new in box, woohoo!) and bought a G5.

So far I love the G5, I considered the G7 since it would have resolved my one gripe with the MX1000 (forgetting to charge it, & having it die) but decided that wireless wasn't all that important. The cloth covered cord of the G5 essentially eliminates my main complaint with wired mice (the cord dragging).

The G5 is wonderful, I must say this is the first time I've ever updated the firmware on a mouse.

Yeah that was pretty much my thoughts on the G5, the cord doesn't drag at all, so none of the old "pull mouse back and bring half the desk with you" routine.

I love my MX1000. I got it from a replacement for my MX700. It's much better than its predecessor. The MX1000 is much lighter, ergonomic, and the battery lasts much longer than the MX700.
I personally find the non-replaceable batteries in the MX1000 to be one of it's best features. The battery that is built in is small and light, and lasts over 3 times longer than the MX700! Charging it for 5 minutes lasts over an hour of intense usage!
