Logitech MX-518 Mice

Heya.

I just got that Mice, it's great. Much better than my previous MX-310. Especially more comfortable.

But, so far, there is something I am not able to do, but was capable of with my MX-310.

My MX-310 has a generic button on the left side (the MX-518 has two on the left), and one on the right side as well (MX-518 has none on the right side). My problem isn't how many there is, or where the buttons are though. The issue I have, is the custom functionality of those "generic" buttons, as they're called in the software given in the box.

When I got my MX-310, I installed the included software, and with it, I was able to assign a custom functionallity to a button of my choice.

Now with my MX-518's software, I am also able to assign custom "actions" to the buttons. But ... the problem is in fact the choices I have in terms of functionality.

What I'm looking for, is to have at least one of the two buttons on the left side to be assigned as a "right click".

With my MX-310, for example, when on the Desktop, I right-click, and as expected the usual window opens (you know, with "Reorganize icons by", "Properties", and etc). Well, that very function was available to be applied with the generic button on its left side as well (for the MX-310).

I did that for a few easier ways to do specific actions in some of my games.

So, with my MX-518, I can't find a way to assign at least one of those left-side buttons to the same functionality than my "regular" right-click button.

Any of you with an MX-518 could help me ? Any suggestions ?

I'm trying to understand why you would want one of your left buttons as a right clicker?

At any rate, you should be able to easily make it right click using Logitech's latest Set Point drivers.

Why: It's because I used my MX-310's left button with the function of a regular right click button for specific actions in some of my games, that were assigned to that left button. So that I could do specific actions easier, at least for me it was.

And so far, with my MX-518, I am not able to assign any of the two left side buttons with the function of a right click again. Like I did with my MX-310.

The MX-310 used a program called MouseWare, to configure it.

My MX-518 uses SetPoint, which has a better interface, but less options in terms of custom button-assignment. Such as the right click function I want for at least one of the two left side buttons I have, on my MX-518.

I hope it's more clear now.

And, I tried MouseWare with my MX-518, but the program does not recognize it. Only SetPoint does, but even though it has a better interface, and new features, it doesn't have the same amount of cusmtomizable buttons/functions as MouseWare did.

I don't know what's wrong with you people? It wasn't a straighforward post, yet nor was it confusing. You people amuse me.

Anyways, have you installed Setpoint software? It'll be obvious how to set it up if you have that installed.

cmrmrc, thanks for your suggestion.

I tried, and it worked only in my Desktop.

But it doesn't work for games, which is exactly why I need such button assignment.

Like I said Ichigo, I use SetPoint right now, the latest version (2.47, from Logitech). And, again, as I mentioned, that program (SetPoint) has a better interface, it's more ... user-friendly, and do have some cool features. But MouseWare (the program I had to configure my old MX-310, still from Logitech) had more potential in terms of custom assignment with Mice buttons.

Some of the things I could do with MouseWare, I simply can't do it with SetPoint.

You know ... when buying my MX-518, I told myself ... man, such a nice Mice, from Logitech, and it's quite expensive.

But never I could have imagined that it would lack such simple customizable capabilities.

I'm thinking about returning it, sadly. Since I really like it, but I don't want to live without the function I'm talking about. I use my system for gaming, and such custom assignment, like I said a few times, is for gaming. I'm still not sure what to do, but I have 28 days left to return it, and get a refund without any questions asked.

Ah !

I found a third party program that runs in conjunction with SetPoint, named LogiGamer, version 2.2.0 Beta. It recognizes my MX-518, and has much more custom button-assignment than SetPoint does by itself.

I'm now able to configure it as I want to, including what I talked about in this thread. And even more.

Long live to community support.

Have you tried uberOptions? Which one is better?
