This is the mouse I'm currently using on my main rig. It is not "laser" but merely an optical mouse. Honestly though, I can't tell a difference in tracking between this and my Logitech G5 laser mouse. I can say that I think the weights on the G5 are gimmicky and I don't like the scroll wheel's sideways capabilities on the G5, plus mine has only one thumb button. Another thing I like about the MX 518 is the resolution switching buttons which doesn't need drivers.

I also have a MX518 and a G5. The MX518 blows the G5 away. I love this mouse. The second thumb button really does the trick especially for gaming.

the "new" G5 (released about 4 years ago) has two side buttons.

Anyway, the mx518 is a very good mouse, just not worth over $25, so this is perfect.

I donno for how long i've used this mouse but at least over 5 years and it is still working perfect. I have doubts about newer mouse even from logitech as 3 of (wireless ones) all have problem with the click buttons within 6 months.

Good deal, but I must confess that I've been so spoiled by hyperfast scrolling that I don't think that I could live without it. 😛

+1 for MX518

this and the microsoft explorer 3.0 are my favorite mice of all time, except the mx518 hasn't died. mine is like 5 years old, still chugging along

Still using my mx518 after 4 years... Damn its been that long?

It's one of those items you have absolutely no need to replace. My favorite mouse by far.

I picked up a MX518 a little while back as a backup mouse when it was on a similar sale... it's a good wired mouse. But there is *no way* I'll ever use a mouse full-time that doesn't have a free wheel again. Losing it is like going from a 2-button mouse to a 1.

Doable, but really annoying.

What I use for "hyper scrolling" on the mx518 is I just hold down the wheel button and drag downward. Scrolls really fast that way. When I'm where I want I just let go of the wheel button.

It's just ugly. It's not pleasing to my eyes. The gray color scheme and the indents in particular.

They aren't Indents!!! They are kinda like a hologram and it looks cool to me. I have this mouse. I can't complain. I think I've had it for about 2 years as my main mouse and it's held up really well.

Can't think of really much wrong with it. It works well. I think that's what I got mine for and the rebate did come. I don't really use the speed buttons on the top since if I did then I'd have to get use to the speed in any game. I suppose making it slower for sniping would be a good feature.
