Logitech MX 1000 Laser Mouse (Bluetooth) $40

I used to have an MX 1000 that finally gave out on me after some...ahem...frustrating gaming experienecs. Anyway, I really loved my MX 1000 and wanted a new one, but for some reason Logicrap cancelled it and replaced it with the shitty MX Revolution.

After searching and finding that MX 1000 mice that were in stock sold for upwards of $100, I found something even better - the MX 5000 for $40:

Logitech MX 5000 (Keyboard + MX 1000 Mouse)

I got one of these, even tho its a refurb it works well. I don't use the keyboard but the mouse works fine - it's an actual MX 1000 and it's like $40. For anyone else who loves the MX 1000 this is a steal.

Just thought I'd share....

Even though this is a nice deal, you're probably better off upgrading to the MX Revolution, it's light years ahead of the antique MX-1000.

clearly, OP realizes that there is more to a mouse than the number of light years ahead it is in its specs.

I actually tried the MX Revolution and I hated it. The MX1000 tracks much better and its button layout is far better for gaming. It also has a nice solid feel whereas the MX Revolution feels kinda "cheap". There's a reason people are willing to pay $100+ for an MX1000...as far as wireless gaming mice go it is still one of the best if not THE best.

What is your take on the G7?

I wish Logitech still made the original non bluetooth MX1000. Best wireless mouse I've ever owned / used. I have a Revolution now and hate it. It's not as heavy as the MX1000 and I don't like the layout of the extra buttons as much as I did the MX1000's.

The new MX1100 looks like something I'd try.

I'm still swapping between the RF versions of the Revolution and MX1000.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I'm thinking I'll try the MX1100 and maybe that will be better than both of 'um.

Nice find Eric!

interesting, I wonder if the bluetooth will also support any device?

if it works with usb headsets, i can get this to use with skype.

I totally agree i still am lucky with a functional original MX 1000 mice and what makes this mouse special is indeed its buttons and the layout that you can profile for all your fps games, also the app switch button is also very nifty, i would never use another mouse unless it has a myriad of buttons and layed out comfortably like this one.

Can't say much about the G7 since I never used it...it never felt right in my hands. I use an MX1000 for wireless, and I recently started using a Razer DeathAdder with the X Control mouse pad - that thing is a sweet setup. It's like the mouse just levitates.

I too can vouch for the MX1000. I went from the MX1000 to a G5 to a G7 to an MX Revolution then back to the 1000. The Revolution, in addition to having a slightly less comfortable layout and feeling a bit cheaper, also has much worse battery life than the 1000.

I'd jump on this deal in a heartbeat....I still may, in fact! Thumbs up to the OP.

Hated the G7 because the battery life was crap compared to the MX1000 which would last almost a week on a good charge. Sadly I have had mine forever and been looking to replace my MX1000

In for one. My old MX1000 was going to wear out sooner or later, and as noted, that sucker is hard to replace. By my count, in addition to the basic 3 mouse buttons, you've got 7 easily reachable 'buttons' on the mouse alone, all of which can be programmed to keystrokes (3 side buttons, 2 above and below the mouse wheel, plus the wheel tilt left and right). I've yet to find anything that even comes close, especially while feeling as natural.

Same here. MX1000 > *

MX 1000 was definitely Logitech's best wireless mouse by far for gaming. Good tracking and button response with a ton of programmable buttons. The MX Revolution is more of a MS Word mouse for office work and the G7 charging issue made both go into my drawer of unused mice.

The MX 1100 is disappointing based on the specs that it uses AA batteries instead of a rechargeable lithium battery pack like Logitech had been going with. That's a big no no in my book.

My MX 1000 is still functional and holds a charge for a 4-6 days depending on use and I would love a replacement as well.

Ordered. Needed a good wireless gaming mouse, looks great, and a keyboard with LCD to boot. Killer deal.

TY

Nataku00, I agree with you about the MX1000 being up there with the best of them...

...but this is where you and I will have to part ways. Just like with my digital cameras, I much prefer a mouse that uses regular batteries vs. a battery pack. Especially if the mouse includes only one pack instead of 2 (but what good are 2 if they only last a couple of days before you have to swap, lol). If you forget to charge the mouse and then begin an extended gaming or work session, you're dead in the water while it recharges (unless you happen to keep a spare USB mouse handy, and I do, but I don't want to have to switch mice if it can be prevented).

I've pretty much gone back to using wired mice but I've purchased several wireless mice and the first thing I check is to make sure it uses standard batteries...then look at specs and compare my options. I like for a mouse to use AA or even AAA batteries; they tend to last a long time and I can keep as many of them around as I need to for little money. Furthermore, after a few hundred charge cycles you can simply start using a new set for next to nothing vs. buying another proprietary battery pack.

Just curious why you prefer a rechargeable battery pack vs. using rechargeable AAs. Convince me! I just haven't seen any rechargeable pack have the longevity of good rechargeable batteries, and that's one of my key requirements when using wireless equipment. I find it annoying to have to charge something every few days...yeah, I wish my cell phone could go months between charges!

I think I've always preferred the rechargeable battery pack because I rarely have had my MX 1000 die on me mid game since I'm on a pretty good schedule to leave it on the charging dock every 3-4 days before the power was completely out. That and the MX 1000 has a reliable charge indicator has always prevented me from letting it run completely dry before a gaming session. I also do something similar as you and keep a G9 mouse plugged in to USB on the side of my desk just in case, but I only use it for certain games.

Prior to the the MX 1000, I used several of Logitech's and Microsoft's old wireless mice and keyboards that used batteries. Perhaps it was their old implementation of not having a charge meter visible on the mouse and keyboards but I would always have issues with the batteries running out while I was in the middle of using them. Even though I have a supply of rechargeable AA's lying around, the convenience of the a lithium cell and the MX 1000's accurate charge meter have probably spoiled me after my battery swapping days 😛

I jumped on this one too. I saw a free shipping promotion for orders over $50, so I added two sata cables to make my total $50 and change. Two sata cables came out cheaper than paying for the shipping, and I don't have any sata cables to spare. Last device I ordered online didn't have a sata cable and I had ot pay $12 local for a single cable. Green all the way around OP. Great deal.

just have to disagree, the buttons on the 1000 are layed out for desktop use. and the cheap loose large plastic see saw type buttons for the ones surrounding the wheel and thumb button have too much play and travel in them, its not built to be a tight fast response device. plus, since lithium ion batteries have a shelf life from when they leave the factory, i dunno if they replaced them with new ones in these refurbs. it matters because you cant replace them.
