Logitech / Microsoft... Wired or Wireless (gaming)

I am building a new system (thanks to MechBgon's guide) for the first time this June / July. I am starting to buy pieces little by little. Already have the new desk, wireless router & card, and Logitech 5300 speakers.... now on to mice and keyboards:

I like the feel of the MS mouse a little more and like the logitech keyboards a little more. Here are some questions:

1. For these wireless keyboards from MS & Logitech, do I need an extra wired keyboard for getting into the bios?

2. Are the wireless keyboards / mice acceptable for gaming?

3. Any issues you see with putting a MS mouse with a logitech keyboard (if I don't buy a boxed wireless set and buy individual wired products?)

Thank you!

I bought the mx700 but found that although it's accurate, it's too heavy for gaming. Now I use a MX500 for gaming and the mx700 for surfing.

out of those choices, the MX duo hands down.

I use the MS Cordless Ergo keyboard and an MX500 and it rocks

I love the mx700 mouse, but hated the keyboard (not to mention how tacky looking it is). I gave mine to my sister in law (she wears too much makeup, so I figured she would like it).. :D I went back to my MS keyboard.

But hey, if you have any of the below it may be right up your alley:

Lighted fans
Cold Cathodes
Anything made my TT (especially cases)
Etc, Etc,...

As the old hot rodders used to say... "if it don't go fast, chrome it"

LOL.... I want the chrome and speed together :)

You'll probably not like my new system when I get it together June / July...... Looks like almost everyone voted for the Logitech duo... I think I'll buy it :D

randommai. The heavyness is a preference thing. Personally, I feel the MX700 is fine for RTS and RPG games and desktop apps where really fast movements aren't usually necessary. But for FPS games, you generally want a lighter mouse so you can flick it with your wrist and pick it up to recenter it accurately. I'm a pretty big guy and i've used the MX700 for FPS games and my wrist starts getting tired real fast (especially fast paced games like UT2004, Quake 3 etc.) No offense to it, it's an awesome mouse with no lag, but the weight of the batteries is def. detrimental to FPS gamers. I personally agree that the MX500 is prob. a better choice for gamers. Besides, if you think about it, besides the coolness of wireless, do you really need a wireless mouse? A wireless keyboard I can understand cause you can type from any position (recliner, bed etc.). But how often do you surf the web with your mouse on anywhere but the table? And contrary to the Logitech commericals, I've never had a problem with the wire on the mouse getting in the way. I just have it intelligently set up and there's no problems.

A wireless keyboard is ok. I'd pick whatever feels comfortable to you.

Wireless mice are heavy with the addition of batteries. The MX700 is over my "comfort level" in regards to weight, but the MX500 is acceptable. If you go try out a mouse @ a local store, make sure you bring a couple AA batteries with you to put into the mouse. Generally the display mice are empty, and the batteries add considerable weight.

Where is Razer on your Poll?

- As far as mixing and matching, get the best tool for the job: A Razer mouse and whatever keyboard you like. ;)
- I prefer wired for gaming - good response and no batteries - the only real use I can see for wireless is a HTPC.
- Go to computer stores, try different mice out or read reviews, mice are a matter of preference as much as a matter of performance.

Hmmm.. I never thought about the weight factor....... I'll have to try out some of the mice (mx 700) to see how heavy it really is. How much gaming are you talking about?? To make you wrist sore?
