I hate USB and Cordless mice equally, the only thing that is worse is putting them both togther in to one product.

What I hate about the cordless versions of mice:
Weight- they are too heavy and cumbersome for extended use. The added mass also slows down your agility when playing games.

Batteries- I am aware that much has improved in this area, but I still hate having to charge the thing up and when I need it most find out it is dead.

other things incluede:
PS/2 has a better support across many differant hardware and os configureations. And dont forget about the higher report rate of PS/2

Lost anything cordless can get lost.

Last issue here is cost, Wired Mice offer better performance at a lower price point. (And no batteries!)

Does any one know if Logitech will release a Corded Version of the MX1000 to replace my worn MX500?

Thanks!

Nope MX700 was heavy from the two AA batteries, but the MX1000 uses a light small lithium battery that makes the mouse weigh about the same as a corded mouse.

Don't know... looking at the specs, it seems that the MX1000 uses more power than the USB port alone can provide.
So, unless they can fine tune it more, it'll need a battery, otherwise, it'll be USB cause that can provide some power to it.

Thanks for the Help, But if you read the above statement I am a ps/2 fan and avoid usb as much as i avoid legacy hardware..

Why bother with the newer mice if you're gonna run it on PS2? (MX1000 comes with a ps2 adapter I believe). The only advantage I can see the MX1000 having over the MX510 is the better tracking which would be negligible on PS2 bus.

The MX1000 is slightly lighter than MX700, but not as light as MX500.
MX700 batteries lasts a long time past the time the red light starts blinking. MX1000 battery lasts very long between charges and has a better 4 point charge meter. (You'll know long before it dies that it's needing charge).

I think the MX500 is more comfortable, I'd recommend sticking with it "if" I were you.

Read up on what i have already written my friend, PS/2 has better compatabilty with diferant hardware and OS's.

MY PS/2 MX500 has been recorded up to 250hz and correct me if i am wrong becaue memories are starting to fade USB only Goes to 125hz.
You also missed my other point, no matter how hard you try to convince me I will not run my mice, keyboard, joystick, speakers, etc on batteries. My computer is hardwired to everything and will stay that way.

The MX1000 is slightly lighter than MX700, but not as light as MX500.
both mice weigh more than the mx500/510 becaue they are wireless, if you add a wire you loose a ton of weight. Because you are leaving out a transmitter and a heavy battery.

The reaon for the high electical requirements is not becaue of the laser, but because the it has a radio transmitter on board. Get rid of the transmitter and you will then use much less energy. And that reminds me of another thing i for got to list: If it is wireless then i must accept interferiance (FCC RULES). Interferience is annoying.

Download the mouse rate utility
http://tscherwitschke.de/download.html

Find a PS/2 WIRED mouse and compaire it against usb, do not however use The MX1000 on ps/2 and crank up the refresh speed under windows control panel since it is wireless and operates at a fixed transmission rate to its reciever.

I hate wirelees computer sh*t. It not as reliable or as cheap as its wired cousins and is insecure.

What I want here is an MX1000 that does not use batteries and can work with any os naitvely.

Thanks!

i'm in the same boat with googer. corded ps2 all the way! I've been looking around, and as far as I can tell there are no plans for a wired version of the mx1000 :( guess I'll just stick with my mx510 for now.
