Logitech G9

hey team, i just got this thing to replace my razer deathadder (which decided to malfunction).

first thing i noticed was the cord, which isnt like the standard cord wired mouse, which im guessing is plastic. the G9 cord is made out of fabric. its rope or something. weird but i like. it doesnt interfere with mouse movements.

the next thing is, it feels really good in my hand. its got interchangeable grips to suit different people.

my hands tend to sweat during gaming, and my hand keeps slipping from my previous mouse. my hand doesnt slip with the G9 , which is cool.

its got your usual buttons. 2 sides buttons, tilt on the scroll wheel and 2 discreet buttons to change the dpi.

its gonna take a little while to get used to it properly but so far it hasnt skipped during gameplay and feels good.

i havent fiddled around with the weights yet, but they come in a funky little tin.

you dont even need the setpoint software. windows recognises the mouse straight away.

the feet glide really nice (im using a razer eXactMat)

so far, this is easily the best mouse ive ever used, by a long distance. ive been through an intellimouse explorer, mx500, mx510, G7 and (imo) the horrible razer deathadder. this thing just blows them all away

i cant find anything to fault it, except maybe the price. but thanks to an advertising error by dabs.com i got my G9 for £27! kudos to them for honouring the order.

if you're after a decent, error, the best mouse on the market get this!!

Thanks for the review. I'm curious about the dpi button placement. How is it? I hear that you can mistakenly hit the left mouse button.

i think the dpi button placement is in a pretty cool position. its right next to mouse1, and you could switch settings so easily ingame.

the dpi setting has a slight ridge, and so far i havent hit left mouse by mistake, yet.

you can customise the dpi with up to 5 setting, from 200 - 3200, and there's a little LED (which you can change colour) that'll show you your current configuration on the mouse.

Very interesting comments. I'm currently using a DeathAdder, which I do like (it's butter smooth and fast!) but the form is uncomfortable. I also have a mouse purchasing problem.. so I may indeed try the G9.

How does it feel? I've used the a few of the gamer style Logitech mice (G7,MX something) I like the large size of them, very comfortable. The G9 is a bit different though, in size/shape.

my deathadder worked fine for about 2 days, then i started developing problems. it started skipping and continued to fire when i had stopped pressing the button. loaded all the drivers and firmware etc. my hand used to sweat and slip on the deathadder also.

the shape of the G9 is really nice. there are 2 interchangeable grips, which you can switch out in a second. just press the button on the back of the mouse and it comes out, and just snap in the new grip. you can use it without the grips too! it almost feels like a different mouse when you switch the grips around.

feels heavier than the deathadder. havent screwed around with any of the weights yet though...

imo, its the perfect mouse (for right handers anyway)

based on your review, one might think you just picked up a G5... except for the interchangeable grips part, though... and the two side buttons thing (applies to the old g5 only). I just got one this weekend and I've been loving it. Go logitech!

anyone know how different the laser engines are between the G5 and the G9? People kept saying that there was something wrong with the first generation laser engines, which kept the G5 and the laser Razer mice from being better than the best of the optical mice (MX518 and etc).

The DeathAdder was the first mouse released after the infamous ESReality benchmarks that finally beat the MX518. Even the MS Habu came in quite poorly in that test, but it was designed well before the DeathAdder. I would hope new mice hitting the market would not suffer from the same DPI errors ESReality uncovered (basically high DPI devices with poor or lossy optics that created errors when moved).

Razer seems to indicate that the newer laser mice other than their upcoming Lachesis are a little better but not by much. However they have bias (they're trying to sell their own product, duh), but I still am not going to jump on any of these new laser mice until they're fairly well tested.

I got one. The sensitivity is really nice especially since you can change it. I wish the shape was more right handed-- the top is pretty much flat

It's $80 at Circuit City btw, and the store will price match to the website. The CC near me had it even though the site didn't show any in stock

when did you get this? I just looked and it's coming up @ $90 after $10 instant rebate. Not sure I like the shape of it, but if I could get it at a B&M store for $80 I'd probably jump on it 🙂
