Logitech G9

So I recently purchased a Logitech G9 from a member on the forum to replace my 3 year old MS Sidewinder. Holy SMOKES I love this thing. It fits my hand SOOO much better and feels so much more responsive! I could only imagine that the G9X is even better. If you've been on the wall about picking one of these up I suggest you do ASAP!

IIRC the only difference between the G9 and G9x is the sensor, otherwise the form factor (well two form factors because of the two grips) and feature set are identical.

I liked some of the profile features of the G9 along with the scroll wheel -- really came in handy. Though, in the end, I wound up shelving it since it was too heavy and big for my tastes. I'm using an Orochi at the moment in a wired config without batteries. Small, accurate, and lightweight, though I do miss some of the more advanced features of the G9. I'm not a huge fan of the Razer drivers/software as I sometimes have issues with macro configs, and the Orochi can only store one profile onboard.

If I could find a laptop sized fingertip usable mouse with the G9's software features and performance, yet weigh less than 70g I'd be in love 😛

Call me old fashioned, but I hate how customizable the G9 is with the weights and stuff. I like how my Steelseries Xai is one size, one weight etc.

Closest things on the horizon to that would be Razer's StarCraft 2 mouse as well as their Tron Legacy mouse.

SC2: 100mm(L) * 66mm(W) * 37mm(H)
Tron: 110 (L) * 61.3 (W) * 33.5 (H)

I know I'm definitely interested in the Tron mouse.

Hrm, the sizes definitley are in the right ranges, though the Tron might be a little long-ish. Both look a bit to be on the "bling" side of things, though the Tron light trail mousepad does pique the inner child 😛 I guess the main thing is the weight -- as I use my fingertips to move the mouse, anything over ~80-90g really affects my response. Button placement is also something I'd probably like to get a good feel for before buying. The Orochi suffers from okay-ish but not-all-that-great thumb button placement, and feels like the thumb buttons are going to break when I press them.

But, yea, going to keep an eye on those since I do like the Orochi as a laptop mouse as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Indeed, love my G9. So much so I bought a spare when they got down to like $24 brand new, in case mine died. Still working perfectly for over 2 years though. Just replaced the teflon feet for a few dollars.

the DB3G weighed in around 100g and it was 128mm × 70mm × 42.5mm.

Yea, the Orochi did measure in right around 90-95g when I weighed it sans batteries. It's kinda on the upper end of my preference scale - right size and just around the top side of the weight range. I did run across the Abyssus, but I need (well, highly prefer) at least one tumb button or side-click on the wheel.

But, I think I've dereailed the topic enough (thanks for all the input). I still do miss the G9's programming software.

I agree, I picked up a G9x a few days ago and it's the first non-Razer mouse I've liked in years. My left click button was starting to act flaky on my Boomslang CE, and I thought I'd try something new rather than use my spare BS. After switching to the alternate grip provided it felt pretty nice right out of the gate. Not sure that I like it better than the Boomslang yet but it sure is nice being able to easily reach the scroll wheel.

Was at Best Buy last night and saw a Black Mamba(?) mouse for $129????

I know it sounds dumb to ask but do you REALLY notice a BIG difference in these "gaming" mouses over a $20 logitech?

Oh and what is the best mouse PAD to use if you are going to invest in a high end mouse?
