The MX518 is a divine gaming mouse that you should never put in the same line as other Logitech products.

It has an amazing scanner and could be sold for twice it's price, or more, if it had the slick design of a Deathaddeer.
It performs about the same.

G5/7/9 can't really compare, they are more hype then quality.

Have you used a G5 G7 and G9? Where's the support for your claims.

This thread is missing relevance.

That's a load of crap. The G5 and now the G9 are some of the most precise mice around. I had the MX518 and the now have the G5. There is a difference and the G5 is smoother and very precise.

Are you one of those die-hards still using Win98 for gaming?

I'm gonna agree with Amart on this one. The G5 and G7 both seem twitchy at high dpi. Even at low dpi it moves a lot even with a small twitch. I have used both a G5 and a G7. I dislike them both for gaming except for the nice, braided cord that comes with the newer G5.

What I see in the G9: "Mommy, I'm gonna go change my mouse's shell today!"

it's more twitchy because it's more sensetive and has better tracking, thus proving the point that it's the better mouse. so you want a mouse that doesn't pick up the smallest movements?

most people dissing the newer mice just do so because they don't own one and want to believe what they have is still the best.

Just picked one up, been looking for a different mouse for a while now... my MX518 is great, but it's kind of a high mouse, and I'm starting to wish it was a bit "flater". Lets see how this G9 compares... it looks flater in the screenshots...

I have the same scroll wheel on my MX revolution and it's great. I just wish my G5 had one too. Definitely keep us posted.

I got the g9 and I love it. It has the type of "feel" I like. I just upgraded from a 6 year old logitech dual-optical mouseman. I bought both the G5 and G9, after I opened and tried the G9, there was no way I was going to even bother with the G5.

Im sure its not for everyone. The people who love the feel of the G5/mx518 type design probably will have some trouble getting used to the G9. The G9 is a really flat mouse so get ready for that. Its actully really small also. If you take the cover off, the actual mouse is really small.

I would say the G9 is probably similar to those razer mice.

So my G9 finally came in the mail, and so far I am really liking it. Been messing around with it for a while now, haven't tried any games yet, but just using it to browse the web and such already feels nicer. I had the MX518 before and although that is a mighty fine mouse, I always thought it was a tad bit too high.

But uhh... where's the damn rebate?? There was nothing in the box besides the receipt from ClubIT. Am I supposed to go to the Logitech website for the rebate?

**EDIT**
Nevermind, found the rebate with a little Googling:

http://www.clubit.com/rebates/CA5047124.122707.pdf

Only for purchases made between 12/14 and 12/27 though. Good thing I bought mine on 12/26, hah.

Great mouse, but I'm not so sure about ClubIt.com rebates. Supposedly my rebate from them was shipped weeks ago, but I have not received it. Their rebate support has yet to respond to my inquiry.

Well, not sure about your rebate Cheapherk, but the one for this G9 is supposed to be mailed to Logitech it looks like... so hopefully I have more luck than you seem to be having.

Anyway, just got done playing a bit of Portal, Crysis, and TF2 with this mouse, and loving every second of it. The "on the fly" DPI switching is great, and they really let you fine-tune your mouse through the setpoint system. Sure, my MX518 had buttons that allowed me to change the sensitivity in-game, but it never seemed to work that well for me. Maybe I just never set it up correctly, who knows.

Also, I love the way this mouse feels over the MX518 as well, like I've mentioned before, it's a lot flatter, which is what I wanted. I've only tried the default, rubbery shell, but it feels fine. I haven't messed around with the weights yet either, seems plenty heavy enough to me with nothing in the mouse. I'll have to read up on what adding weight to your mouse can do for you.

My only complaint about the mouse would be that the wheel click feels a bit too "heavy", I really have to press down on the wheel to make it register. I'll eventually get used to it I'm sure, but coming from a MX518 it needs a lot more pressure to make it click. I do love the "Hyper-fast" mode of the wheel, which removes the click-click-click rotation of other mice. The wheel is weighted, so when you give it a flick it spins and keeps on spinning, making the page scroll by as fast as you want it to. I can get to the top of this page (takes me 6 page-up's to get to the top) in about 1 second if I give the wheel a flick. It's easy enough to switch between the two modes and have your wheel actually click when you rotate it.

If you're looking for a good gaming mouse, and would prefer a slightly lower profile mouse (flatter), then I would highly suggest you get your hands on one of these and test it out. Awesome mouse.
