This mouse rocks.

Lightness of MX518.
Tracking of MX518 and better even!
Single button on side is better than two IMO
Huge glide pads instead of whimpy feet.
NO delay whatsover when picked up and put back down while moving fast.

The base is much better and it not needing a cradle like the MX700/900/1000 series is a big improvement.

Changing the batteries on the fly - litterally! The release will eject the battery out of the thing completely like a freak toaster.

Finally, I can say a (cordless) mouse has no different feel or response than corded. That's a big

:)

Single button on the side is crap... it's great to be able to quickly navigate forward AND back in Firefox... that's the only reason I won't abandon my MX500.

I never used that but you can use the side scrolling function on this mouse as the 500 does not have this feature.

Yeah, I would've much preferred two buttons on the side. Not only is it good for web browsing, it's spectacular for gaming.

For example, in BF2 (I'm primarily SpecOps) I've got G36C set to one gun, and my pistol set to another. Quick switch for finishing off opponents, as opposed to using the one button, which I feel wouldn't work as well.

I'm glad to hear that it's indistinguishable from the corded mice in terms of its performance but, for the time being, I think I'll be sticking to my MX510.

The click resistance on the wheel is a bit stiff for my liking. Why do they have to put the screws under those stickers???

This is much better than the MX1000. That thing feels like I'm pushing a CD player across the desk. And I use a mousepad!

Maybe you're not getting it, the G7 has both vertical and horizontal scrolling, you can set the left and right horizontal scrolling motions to forward and back (ie internet browsing) or to select weapon choices in games like BF2. The button for forward was IMO useless (I mean who needs to go forward, someone who mistakenly hit back?) and for those that cant do without it you can set it the horizontal scroll to forward anyways... The forward button was also too far forward so hitting it was a bit ackward in general. It's increase in precision is highly desirable. If you have an MX500 or plus series, maybe now is not the time for an upgrade, but the G7 is a stellar mouse nonetheless...

It's a personal preference. Calm down. Just because you found it awkward doesn't mean he did (or I do, for that matter).

I've got decently long fingers, so reaching those buttons aren't a problem for me.

If I could get some extended playtime with the G5/G7 and see how it feels in my hand, that's one thing.

I agree! Two buttons are better than one! I depend on them for browsing and in games they are used as quick switch buttons. IF you do not like two buttons on the side of your mouse then the fix is a simple one: Go to the Logitech Control Panel and map both buttons to the same funtion that way it wont matter which one you hit since you will get the same reaction from both of them. Or you can use the same control panel to disable any button on the mouse.

Although I do miss the second button that my MX510s have, the side-scroller more than makes up for it. Everything else C6FT7 said I totally agree with. Instead of 3, the included software can program up to 5 DPI settings for on-the-fly switching as well. Best mouse I've ever used, although the turquoise I don't like, but who cares. It kicks ass. Can't wait for my fUnc 1030 to get here.

MX1000 is doing fine for me, tracks on most anything, I like the heft, I personally have never noticed any delay and it is plenty accurate on my func1030.

Calm down??? Did I use exclamation marks or ALL CAPS or something, WTH???

My point isnt that I "by the way found it ackward before with the forward button", my point is that the missing button is more than made up for by the additional horizontal scrolling which has a lot more configurability and the increased performance of the mouse.

Not to mention 2 LION batteries included for non stop gaming... A very nice addition. You couldnt hear me drop the MX1000 fast enough... Got the G5 for the wife though. The MX1000 just sits around now...

I use the Wireless Microsoft Mouse and it is by far the most comforatble mosue I have ever used. % buttons makes it amazing for gaming and I can't notice a difference between this wireless mouse and my friends MX510.I give this a two thumbs uo for anything. By far best mouse for the money and in my opinion best mouse ever.

I've got a mini-review on this thing incoming as soon as I get settled into it a little more. In short, coming from a MX1000 it's a nice upgrade...but nothing spectacular.

thekillerjks, isn't that the one with the ultra-smooth scroll that you can't actually feel? I don't like that; I like knowing whether I've scrolled once, twice, or three times; that kind of thing is typically the difference between pulling out your rifle and pulling out a knife.

I'm afraid I just can't get past the lack of a second button. Not so much in first person shooters (though it still is a factor there) but in the MMO's I play where I need rapid access to as many buttons as I can lay a hand on. Glad you're enjoying the mouse though - I hope it provides you with many hours of happy computing. :)

What's battery life like? My old MX700 was horrible. Had to be in cradle all the time.
My current MS wireless goes 3 months without needing to change batteries.

Not sure about battery life as this one was given to me today...

The tilting scroll wheel function set to back (left) and forward (right) does NOT work with Firefox.

What are you talking about? Size, weight, or what? I have the MX1000 and its by far the best mouse i have ever used. I have the MX510 in my office, i had some Creative mouse before the MX1000, and have used a dozen other mice prior to that. None even begin to compare, but i could see how the G5/7 would be stellar. I just dont see how its SO different from the MX1000, save for a couple things (fast swap batteries and big feet).

Sounds like you may have given them a memory from the get go. My MX1000 visits the cradle once a week or so, and this is with HEAVY usage. Never had to replace the actual batteries yet.

I cannot get comfortable with the MX1000 at all. It's horrible and apparently others have said the same hence the shape of the newer mice closely mimics the original MX series.

The MX1000 is too heavy for my liking as well. The MX518 is a nice mouse and the G7 is just as light and feels lighter without a cord.

MX1000 uses Li Ion batts and the MX700/900 use NiMh. Neither really get a memory from shallow cycling.

 I love my MS Wireless Explorer 2 mouse thingy, but man I want that G7. At -wtfbbq!- $100, I'm not going to be getting one any time soon :(
