People who don't put their whole hand on the mouse. Just navigate with their fingers.

^ LOL, never heard of this before. I thought that's what a trackball thingy was for, which I could never stand

Thx for clarifying though

some of us loathe the feeling of something stuck to our palms the entire time.

I would like to see a video of this fingertip technique. I can't imagine it being comfortable or helpful for me!

Um... just hold the mouse with just your fingertips and move it with just the tips of your fingers. It works a lot better with smaller, lighter mice (usually gaming mice don't fit in this category). It's easier if you have a high sensitivity mouse and precise fingers.

Im a fingertip user and have a G3. More precisely, my thumb is on the left side and my rign finger on the right (on the side not the top) just a little pressure, a finger on each bottun. Works very well for me :)

Only the tips (and sometimes the sides) of my fingers touch my G5, so I guess I have a name now.

For those not familiar with fingertip usage:

Plant your wrist and the back of your palm on the desk. Don't move it at all. Now push the mouse forward a bit so the rest of your palm is not touching it. Now move the mouse freely without moving your wrist/palm from where it is planted.

It allows for more precise, delicate movements for people who prefer their mouse sensitivity higher. It generally feels more comfortable when doing any sort of drawing on the computer, especially in cases like freehanding with the brush tool in Photoshop.

In general, your mouse will never move much further than an inch or two away from it's original position.

The downside is that when you have mice with more than 3 buttons you often can't reach buttom towards the front of the mouse easily unless you have really long fingers... but on day to day applications, I don't use those anyway.

My mouse speed is set at the highest but I cannot even reach all corners of the screen with this technique. Maybe I need new drivers? Using MS Wheel Mouse Optical, and I thought I downloaded the updated drivers not that long ago...

I'm using whatever drivers were found for my mouse on first install of XP and everything works fine. I can get from one corner of my screen to the opposite (on a widescreen resolution) with about a 2.5 inch movement. Rather than forming to the contours of the mouse, your fingers should be arched onto the buttons. My point speed is set to about 3/4 of the way to the right.
