logitech first mouse problems under XP

Just installed XP final release. I have the Logitech 3 button first mouse.
I also have the latest mouseware forom their site. But i can't get the logitech advanced window in my control panel.
i even tried just upgrading my drivers by pointing the wizard to all the extracted files from the installer. no luck. In the devices list, all ps2 mice are listed but no serial devices listed.

ANy ideas. i even contacted their support. even they could'nt figure out what's wrong.
