(Apparently a Logitech spokesperson has since said that the company

I'm going to ignore all the obvious reasons why this is a bad idea and point out a less obvious one: Let's say you have found the perfect mouse, the one you want to be forever best buds with and you're willing to pay the price. Logitech would need to commit to building that model for as long as the customer wants, as well as any other models that they subsequently release on this scheme... which is about as likely as Microsoft deciding to backport what was worthwhile from Win11 to Win7 and putting that on a forever-supported scheme!

Incidentally, I would be really tempted by an updated (under the bonnet changes only) Win7 without the rubbish!

I want some of what she's smoking.

Like others, I think mice last plenty long enough so really it would just be about driver support, which is really nothing to them since they're still going to pump out compatible software for each new version of the OS they support, and the OS already has native mouse support, so we're just talking about keeping the interface for each mouse, recognized by the software... might be cheaper for them to NOT remove that recognition with newer software than to do so.

I take that back, have worn out the left click button on a couple of my favorites over the years, so last time I placed an order at Digikey, I preemptively bought a replacement switch. I can't tell you if this one fits any particular mouse, but is what a few of my logitechs used:

Incidentally I'm typing on a Win7 system right now, with a few hardware upgrades of course. It does everything I need except gaming.
