Logitech 5.1 speakers......Z640 or X530

I need some speakers for my new computer and I have heard good things about Logitech. The z640 system has quite a good reputation. I believe the x530 system is the newer line. They are almost the same price.

Which would be the better buy for a gaming PC??

I see they have a 2.1 model called Z-3 as well.

How does a 2.1 system do with gaming? Is 5.1 far more superior because you are surrounded by sound? Would a 2.1 speaker system work just as good?

5.1 setups do take a lot of room and you have wires going all over the place
 
I have the Z640 and there ok. There is way better out there but for the money there a decent set of speakers. Just dont expect nothing great.

I used mine with the onboard sound on the K8V SE Deluxe MoBo and it did a decent job. My board has since died and I went with a K8N-E Deluxe and opted for a sound card this time.

 
I would prefer the 2.1 system to save space but I think I might be missing out on the surround aspect of most PC games out there
