Logisys (DeepCool) CPU Heatsinks: User Feedback Requested

Hi Folks,

Has anyone tried the Logisys CPU heatsinks? Logisys is the U.S. brand name of DeepCool. I have suddenly seen a ton of advertising for them, and I'm really curious to see hwo good they are. I have seen a few of them being sold now on NewEgg and Amazon.

What intrigues me is the number of options they have, including low height heatsinks that would be great for cramped HTPC's.

I know this is pretty old but Goggle led me here of course.

I just unboxed the Logisys HTPC-11 today and find that the fan is 3-pin, not 4-pin. There is no fan control so it runs at 2600RPM +/- 10%. This is pretty much a non-starter. Who makes a HSF with a 3-pin fan?! Of course, it doesn't really say so in the product details but now seeing it and looking again it's semi-sorta-not-really obvious but it's there.

Not to mention the fan is super loud compared to every other low-profile HSF I've tried (NT07-1156, Gelid Slim Silence, Titan 30mm, my neighbor's leaf blower, our shopvac, etc.)

$16 down the drain unless I replace the fan.

Maybe they're just trying to keep up with the Jones'?

By that I'm referencing Corsair's A50 and A70 heatsinks which come with similar fans - fast and 3-pin. Of course Corsiar gifts you with a little resistor adapter that knocks 400RPM off the speed, making them 2200RPM. So, from really noisy to just noisy.

I've seen this in some other brands/products as well, such as the otherwise excellent Scythe Ninja. At least I think the latest version comes with a fan controller, but I'd rather it just be 4-pin PWM. I think Zalman does it too, with often using a 3-pin fan but including a FanMate controller.

I'd take frostytech with a grain of salt. Not sure if they've changed their testing methodology, but I remember their reviews and HSF rankings made no sense whatsoever compared to results from other review sites.

edit: yep, I remember now. Their rankings is based on a synthetic core, that means well...nothing.

My testing was based on putting it my system, seeing the 3-pin connector and hearing it sound like a airplane taking off. HTPC CPU cooler my a**.

Why the interest in that particular heatsink?

I have not read any reviews where it is placed in the same league as any of the Noctua or Scythe or Thermalright heatsinks!!

Probably really cheap. that's why
