Login/ logoff loop

Hows it going? I have Debian 6 installed on my laptop and I ran into a problem where I can no longer login to see my gnome desktop. The problem is that I immediately get logged off as soon as I login. I have tried several times to login again but the process is redundant. What happened prior to this login logoff loop was a change in settings using the Cairo dock. I changed a theme, the screen flashed and took me to the login screen. Once I proceeded to log in as normal I was immediately returned to the login screen again and I have been stuck since. I have tried to google the problem but only for my searches to come out vague. My video card is a HD Radeon 3200. Is there a way that I can restore settings through virtual console crtl+alt+f1 or configure my video settings through this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I thank you in advance.

Log in as yourself on the virtual console and look at .xsession-errors and see if anything jumps out and looks fixable.

I'm sure you could reset those settings if you knew where they were (e.g. under ~/.config) but I don't know exactly where the panel settings are stored for Gnome.

First and foremost I want to say thank you for your time and thoughts but I have come to another solution. What I did was since I knew I changed the settings in my cairo-dock application I just had to locate the path of where the settings were through terminal. Once i found the settings that I changed on there I deleted the settings and it restored my desktop. It was fairly simple I don't know why I didn't think of that from the beginning. Maybe the frustration it caused me didn't allow me to think as clearly as I should have lol.

Still again I appreciate you responding and giving me your thoughts. Thanks again.
