My friend got the following hardware:
Intel i7-860
Patriot Viper 3 x 2GB DDR3-1333
Gigabyte P55-UD4P
Intel X25-M G1 80GB
Asus Radeon 4870 Dark Knight
Corsair 450W PS
He is constantly getting lockup during the Windows 7 installation. This can happen at the drive option, it can happen at the agreement screen, can happen at the upgrade/custom screen... just random. Sometimes, it would bluescreen before he can get Windows 7 startup logo. He tried using a different DVD drive, USB drive, and USB flash drive. He tried using only 2 DIMMs - same result. He ran Memtest on the DIMMs, no problem found.
He managed to bring all the hardware to office. First thing I noticed is that the CMOS battery is partially loose so I push it back in. Also, in the M.I.T. --> advance voltage screen, it will take forever to load and refresh with data. After I flash the BIOS with version F9 (previously F5), that problem is resolved.
I tried to boot from the Intel SSD firmware CD but it will crap out with shell command missing error. This will happen in IDE and AHCI mode. I was able to flash it from my work PC.
I tried to install Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit but was getting the same result as him. I moved the SSD from SATA port 0 to 1. After doing so, I was able to consistently get to the installation screen but get stuck at 34%.
I think he has a bad motherboard. Anyone agree?
