Lockups on chaintech Ti4200

Hey fellas. I bought a chaintech ti4200 128 mb ram and its great except for this problem. My computer locks up occasionally when running games, watching dvds or even surfing the net. Last time it hanged, I was watching an Mpeg file with hardware acceleration disabled. Previously, I was using a voodoo 5 5500 which never gave me this problem ever even though I was using third party drivers. I have uninstalled the third party drivers and I removed its files by doing a search for 3dfx*.* and deleting it. Is that enough? Initially I used the detonator 41.09 but with the performance slider set to the extreme right, I noticed the lock ups were quicker, ussually it takes at least 30 minutes or so when it happens. So currently I am using the 40.72s.
I am using an Athlon 1GHZ 200 fsb on a Gigabyte 7ZX with 256 mb ram running windows 98se. My PSU rating is 235 watts (its almost 4 years old) but I dont think thats the problem cause my voodoo5 had its own power connector like the 9700 pro these days. Then again I could be wrong. Any help appreciated.
Oh and by the way, I really enjoy reading stuff on this forum and come back to read more atleast once a day.

235w is a little low for a 1ghz Athlon and GF4 Ti4200 IMHO, being 4 years old probably a generic brand , upgrading the PSU would be wise thing to do in the long run. Last resort is clean install of OS and drivers to make sure you`ve a clean driver registry would also be a good thing to do_Other things like make sure your PCI slot one is empty(nearest to AGP slot card) and check your video card is not sharing IRQ with anything else.

Hows the temps? Try running with the case open to see if that improves anything. Some gaming BIOS tweaks won`t do any harm so disable video ram cacheable, all video shadowing, system bios cacheable.

That board is a KT133 VIA chipset so have you installed the VIA 4in1 drivers(especially the AGP driver).

Btw stockspeedsrule welcome to AT (short for Anandtech).
