Lockups in Conquest Frontier Wars

I just picked up Conquest Frontier Wars and i got to the part where i can use the battleship special attack that creates a shockwave..or when the enemy mantis uses the gas cloud..my system freaks and locks. If i wait it out i get returned to windows. I'm running a radeon LE with 7153 drivers. Anyone else experiencing problems? Thnx.
