locking folders

on my computer, theres only one users and people go on it. but ide like to keep some of my games, business and password files protected with a password. ide be pissed if someone deleted my oblivion saves by mistake somehow. is there a way to make a folder viewable only with a password? or do you have to download a third party program to do that? i would think windows would have thought to make this kind of security. or is users and then setting up permissions windows way of solving it?

as soon as you responded, i started looking for it too. i ended up going to the same website that you linked hehe.

Thanks, im gonna try it now

Set a password on your account, and use the Security tab on the file/folder to remove all permissions for everyone but you (have to disable simple file sharing first). Even if the other accounts are Administrator, they'd have to know how to give themselves permissions back before they could do anything.

yea, but we all use the same account. thats the problem

i installed the private folder program and its nice and simple, i like it. you have to transfer all the stuff to the "my private folder" which is okay but only that i have to transfer everything to this folder now. Not a big deal, i like it.

i decided to uninstall the program. its still a little buggy. made my computer freeze almost 3 times, out of the zero times it has ever frozen since i owned it. Looks like it still needs work. I would advise against using this program for large files, that might have been why it froze, perhaps simple smaller files, it will work, but i dont want to take a chance and just uninstalled it.

you also dont get to pick which partition it stores your private folder in. i dont have much space on the c: drive but it wont only put it there even after i installed the program on my f: drive.

looks like ill need something else. preferably something that locks the folders in their place, and dont have to transfer it to a certain folder.

only a matter of time before some perv mentioned that...

It's the proper fix to this "problem."

then i guess i dont need a "proper" fix. im not gonna hassle everyone to sign onto their own user names and such when there might be a program to simple lock the files in their place. i dont like the alternatives, that why i wanted a program to do it this way.

On a home PC seperate accounts are not always an intelligent solution. Being able to password protect a folder is only logical but any applications I've seen aren't very workable.
