I just read a review on newegg for the AMD XP2500:

"Sorry guys they are starting to ship locked Processors. The Barton I just received on 11/13/03 is multiplier locked. It takes a pretty high fsb speed though. "

What exactly does this mean??? And how exactly will this effect OC'ing??
Should I still consider this chip or get the XP2800??

Thanks.

It means that you shouldn't get this CPU if you were planning to overclock it by raising the multiplier. The only way to overclock it is to raise the FSB speed. Some people say you can overclock it to 400FSB speed, though, which is pretty good.

do what i did hit every local shop you can find that has them and see if you can find an earlier week code that is still unlocked. I hit the local shops 4 days ago with my list of known locked week codes and lucked into a batch of week 34's at one shop. paid a bit of a premium ($130) for it this way but it is happily cruising a 2.2 ghz 1.68volt core thinking it is a 3200+. Money well spent as far as i am concerned
