Locked CPU? 2.8HT on DFI Lanparty

Ok...I'm branny new to this stuff, (OC'in that is...), but learning very quick. I'm doing everything I can to change the clock speed of my new (week old) P4 2.8HT CPU (Retail, if that matters...my friend says it might due to warranty) on a DFI Lanparty 875PRO board. The system will BLIP on to the video POST, but as soon as it hits the system POST, it shuts OFF. On the next boot it goes into Windows just fine, but then there are no differences on the HW Monitor programs. The POST info shows it still running @ 2.8Ghz but the BIOS shows the same adjustments that I made, regardless of what they are.

WHAT am I missing here? I've even tried stepping up the Vcore to 1.52 with no change either.
I'll post pics of what I got if needed.

I have the same board, noticed the same problem, download the latest BIOS form the DFI site...think its dated 7-22-03, youll be able to run at the set speeds in the BIOS after that.
It also has some extra mem settings that gained me severl points in 3dmark2001/2003

Man...talk about the Hard Knock Life for me!! :disgust:

Update the BIOS as you mentioned, but there was something that I saw under the FAQ's for the 875PRO board regarding a RAID driver version.

Here's the link for the FAQ about it.

Question:

I installed the OS at Highpoint RAID channel. Why the system keeps on rebooting after I flash BIOS with the newest version posted on your formal download page?

Answer :

Answer :

If you installed the OS (operating system) under BIOS dated 5/30/2003 or earlier, please do not use the latest BIOS (7/22/2003) on formal download page to flash your BIOS. Please use the alternatively prepared BIOS dated 8/13/2003 for flashing. It is identical to the BIOS dated 7/22/2003 on formal download page. The only difference is the version of BootROM included in the BIOS. Version 2.342 and 2.345 of BootROM is included in the BIOS dated 8/13/2003 and 7/22/2003 respectively.

If you installed the operating system with BIOS version newer than 5/30/2003, not including this version date, you can flash your BIOS with the latest version posted on formal download page. There will be no continuously rebooting bug.

P.S. The added feature in HighPoint ver.2.345 is to enhance the communication issue between HighPoint IDE RAID and Intel ICH5R SATA RAID. If you have not used this combination, you can neglect the enhancement and just use BIOS dated 8/13/2003 to flash. If you intend to use this combination, we suggest you re-installing the operating system under newer BIOS version.

I did NOT install the OS under the RAID 1.5 setup, but I did switch it to the RAID after installing the OS. When the HD's are connected to the IDE channel, it will boot into windows just as it is running at the moment. If I attempt to run it under RAID it will BSOD for a split second, then reboot. I followed the above instructions as per using the 8/13/2003 BIOS as opposed to the one listed on their site for 7/22/2003 to avoid this problem, but I am getting it!! I even tried the drive update that goes with it, but no change.

I'm either missing something large, or something is whack.

Anyone? I've given up on the OC'ing for the moment, in turn to figure out why I can't get the RAID setup working anymore. I looked for a RAID forum, but there apparently isn't one...yet? ;)

I have sent this to the lab to review since they probably know more about exact issues than me in this situation. If you don't hear back from me in a day or three, please PM me!

Much appreciated for the support...and I'm still here...waiting...patiently. ;) But seriously, I've notived another strange occurance of the system rebooting for no apparent reason after starting it up for the first time of the day. As if it might be happening while it's warming up to operating temps. It happens with either HDD running, and seems to be within the 1st ten minutes of start-up. The only things that I could imagine causing this might be the MBD or a Power Supply which is a POWMAX 500 Watt. Anything else?

Randy took a look and gave me a big sheet about how to overclock lol. I think he missed the part about the RAID + flashing BIOS, but he has seen it now. If he doesn't reply by the weekend, please PM me or hit my profile and dump off an email to me reminding me =)

Finally figured it out...at least the OC'ing deal. I've gone over 3.6Ghz now...and stable at 3.5 at the moment. Will provide interesting pics shortly.

No one EVER got back to me. The crashing issue was that my RAM (DDR400 running at 400Mhz) couldn't take much more than the 400Mhz when overclocking the entire system, so my savy-er computer friend came over and said that it had to be something else that was not taking the up'd speeds, so we locked the RAM to 266Mhz or so and then pushed the system up again. Check out the crazyness! Tom's HW should be impressed!

But now I'm running this....
Kinda nice since my previous DELL Dimension 4800's processor ran at 733Mhz...and now my newe system's bus speed is a good bit more than that!!

If there's no simple fix for the RAID 1.5 setup to fix it, then I'll just re-stripe them again since I've been running on a single drive for so long, I'm going to lose a lot of crap I installed/saved, but I've got a 120GB to store things to temporarily for the saved items.
