i doubt it, but is there a way for an author of a thread to lock it himself without the help of a moderator?

if not, i think there should be. it'll come in handy especially for the hot deals forums so when deals die, people won't be allowed to brag and moan in the thread afterwards, making it bumped.

just a suggestion!

All you need to do is edit the title to "Please Lock" and the Mods will usually lock it. If you want to make sure it's locked just edit the title to "Hot Porn for Sale " and I can assure you that they will lock it:)

can't we delete our own threads? thatd be so nice. no more need for "done! please lock mods!" or "wrong forum. lock." i emailed fusetalk and they said they already have it implemented. but i cant seem to find it.

Users being able to delete threads would only invite chaos. Can you imagine the field day some of the trolls in For Sale/Trade would have, if they could delete their thread?

Also, it's not unusual for me to search for a user's past threads, to see what kind of a person I'm dealing with.

Or maybe a subtle " ALL <insert ethnic group here> MUST DIE........NOW 9 times out of 10, that will get your thread locked.

I'd actually like to see it head the other way, if anything. At a certain point in time you shouldn't be able to edit your post anymore - say in six hours' time? Or maybe you can edit only to add content onto the post, not delete what is already there. Also, it'd be nice if editing a post within the first 10 minutes of posting it didn't make the post display a "Last Edited..." note at the bottom, to fix typos. Though I guess that's what the Preview function is for.

Being able to lock/delete/edit your own thread is a copout, posts are forever!

i've always wondered why some ppl ask to have their threads locked after getting an answer to a question. if it's like, i dunno, my account can't send PMs, then sure, lock it up. but if it's a good question, with good answers, why ask for it to be locked? then you'll have the same question asked because the thread title usually gets changed and you can't search for it anymore. i know it happens both ways, i was always curious tho why ppl think someone else might not benefit from the answer they got.

of course, no one uses the search function anyway, so i guess it's a moot point.

Deleting, and locking treads will never be enabled :) Hate to burst the bubble, but it just is not going to happen. First, you would get people making questionable threads people complaning then the thread creator deleting, thus removing the proof. Locking well, along the same lines.

i fail to see how locking is along the same lines as deleting. all locking does is stop any further posting - the information in the thread never goes away.... what am i missing here?

BingBongWongFooey, you are a liar and and ass and a theif. And a jerk. Oh yeah, and your mama wears combat boots!!!

*LOCK*

Again, the "less respectable" people would have a field day with locks. They'd get their shot in, and then kill the ability for others to reply.

(And yes, I'm kidding about you being a liar, ass, theif, and even jerk. ;) )

True, but AT moderator could pull an "instant ban" for that. That is a MUCH more ban-worthy abuse than "in soviet russia an idiot am i" or the whole sharp object deal. It wouldn't be abused for more than a few days I think. Deletion would definitely be abused though.

why even take the chance tho. that's more work the mods have to do. now instead of having to look out for ppl thrusting sharp objects into each other they'd have to review every locked thread to see if it's content was bannable.

What about, " ALL <insert ethnic group here> MUST DIE........NOW while selling hot porn and doing the nasty with several animals?

I like the idea of being able to Lock your own threads. I don't see how that could be a problem since it doesn't delete any of the information.
