Went to start up my computer today, and couldn't get anything to light up. Components were getting power, but that was about it.
Nudged the memory and cpu a bit, and was able to get it to boot, but after a minute or so, windows would freeze or the machine would reboot itself.
Tried to run Maxidiag (hard drive diagnostics) without booting windows, and kept getting low memory errors. I shut everything down, tweaked the memory again, and everything seems to be working fine.
Using an AX6BA Open mobo, with a PIII 450 CPU and a 128 MB stick of Kingston (Infineon) PC100 memory.
When I installed the memory about a month ago, replacing a stick of generic I first bought, I had a hell of a time to just get the board to light - perhaps the slot is a bit tattered - perhaps why the person on the for trade board was looking to get rid of it. It didn't seem to be the memory, as I had the same problem when attempting to use the old stick. Eventually, after moving things around a bit, it finally lit up and everything worked fine.
So, heres the question: Could it be something other than the slot on the board? Any good way to confirm that? If so, should I simply look for a new board, or is there something simple I can do?
