lock this- solved--new laptop power line loses power when it wiggles

I just got this laptop 2 days ago. It was the last one, I cannot exchange it. I'm very happy with it, except that sometimes when I move it around, the power gets lost for about 1 second- long enough to shut off the machine and force a reboot with the question 'should windows start normally?'
I can probably train myself to forceably keep the cord pushed in when I move it, but I wonder what you guys think about this? shoudl I keep it or should it go back? is the first sign of a lemon?

I'm not a road warrior that needs a tank, but I don't want to hassle with a dud machine.

it's a gateway 3520GZ from best buy. I like it a lot except for this issue.

I also got the 3 yr PSP, which I never do because it's a gateway and I figured that they may not be around in 3 yrs to honor their warranty and at lesat BB will be. It was $1450 with tax& the PSP. did I mess up ?

the other choices are the fujitsu S6231 for $1500
Sony 260P for $1500 + tax (160)

the sony has a 1 yr warranty and the fuji has a 3 yr warranty. I know everyone loves fuji and ibm, but the sony is smaller, sleeker and slightly better spec'd than the fuji. it's pretty cute. and I can get it today in town vs mail order on the fuji. As an aside, we have an old vaio P3/500 and it's still chugging along; a relative has an old vaio laptop and another person has a sony monitor . so our personal experience with sony has been ok.

I would be happy with the specs on all 3 and do no gaming. xp home is not an issue. I would not upgrade what I get in the box. smaller is preferred but cost/overall value is also an issue.

I have a dvd burner on my desktop, which I use maybe once a month at most.

here' sthe basic specs on all 3

gateway:
1.6 centrino, 512 mb, 60 gb HD, dvd burner, 14.1 wide ultrabright screen, wireless b/g, XP Home, shared video, 3 year best buy PSP (covers screen and battery I think)

fujitsu
1.6 centrino, 512 mb, 40 gb HD, CD burner, 13.3 crystal view screen, wireless b/g, XP home, shared video, 3 yr fujitsu warranty (doesn't cover screen adn battery I think), 1 yr extra warranty for using amex. -- edit: no one in town carries fujitsu, so I have no idea about the screen and keyboard other than what I read online. I kind of don't like that idea.

sony:
1.7 centrino, 512 MB, 60 gb HD, cd burner, 13.3 xbrite screen, wireless b/g, XP pro, 32 mb discrete video card, 1 yr sony warranty, 1 yr extra warranty for using amex.

thanks, tell me what to do!!!

keep the gateway or swap for the fuji or sony
(also ther person paying (not me 🙂) thinks the sony is the way to go!)

i would swap it because i'd be annoyed at myself for not swapping it for the next 3 or 4 years..

actually i would return it and wait a couple weeks for sonoma laptops 🙂

Is the battery installed?

Losing power from the cord should not force a shutdown if the battery is working properly on a laptop, it should just switch to battery power and at worst switch to a lower cpu mhz for power saving features. I think this is a major sign that something is wrong with this laptop.

if you already have problem the first week, the computer isn't gonna last. Take it back. There could be issue with the connector spring, or soldiering on the MB. Not worth keeping at all.
