Lock R520 threads

Currently the first 4 threads in Video are about the R520 benchmarks, how about locking a few of them for the sake of consolidation.

It amazes me how people whine about such trivia occurances in a forum. Is it possible to just "go around them?" Don't numerous threads "go away" in due course? Obviously if they stay at the top there is ample discussion. Why am I even posting this... I should of just "went around" it..lol

not when people keep responding to them. then those same people go out and find their own link and create an entire new thread. so they bumped at least two and created a new one. I too am sick of all the r520 threads.
lock em all and create a sticky (or at least a temporary one)

By far the most interesting thing going on in Video right now is the looming R520 launch. If there is reasonable conversation going on in each thread why lock any of them?

meh, i can't see a reasonable conversation going on in ANY of them, since they are fuelled by speculation and fanboyism...

that said, just don't click on them, let the fanboys amuse themselves 😉

QFT

the threads that are duplicates [or if the original turns out to be boring] ultimately self-delete for lack of interest

about time we had something really interesting happening in video . . . other than from nVidia 😉

I think Anandtech's forums have a big problem with redundant threads in general because there is no moderation of them and they're allowed to run rampant.

If you look at something like Arstechnica they lock duplicate threads straight away and it makes a much cleaner forum with much less noise.

I personally think the mods should lock all of the R520 threads and create one perpetual R520 thread where everyone should be posting. This idea should also be applied in general to duplicate threads about popular topics.

A total of thirteen threads about video cards have been posted to in the last ~72 hours over at Ars's A/V forum. That doesn't cover the last five hours here. If the threads are going with decent conversation why bother locking them?

Exactly. Over here we get a "should I get a R520 or G70" or "should I get a crossfire/SLI" thread evey half an hour or so.

Over at Ars duplicates like that will be locked very quickly and in most cases duplicates like that aren't even posted because the mods run a tight ship and everyone there knows it.

Look at the Ars A/V page right now - a grand total of one R520 thread.

If the threads are going with decent conversation why bother locking them?
To get a better signal to noise ratio. Why have three threads discussing the same subject when you can have one and save the other two slots for other discussions?

I frequent both forums and concur. Militant tread nazi's just drive the users away. Getting your thread lock is a cyber slam that drives many people away from forums. Many ars forums suffer from severe lack of involvement, and many of Anands subjects (like the laptop thread) need all the help they can get to encourage, vs discourage participation.

Now merging would be a cool concept. Does fusetalk support it? Merge is constructive vs lockings destruction.....
