Is there any reason when a thread like this is locked you could not at least include an explanation in the original post. It was a link to a current story running on CNN and seemed to not violate any of the standards as I understand them so I am just curious why it was locked so quickly?

Looks like a repost. That thread also has an explanation as far as I can see.

Looking at the times it appears he was doing the explanation about the time I was posting here. So one quick on the trigger nef will be allowed to shutdown what could have turned into an interesting discussion about how this guy infiltrated a web site and told the FBI what he had done and was brushed off? I guess it was just one of those judgement calls...

You never know with the mods.

FWIW though, I do remember seeing a long thread on that topic earlier today.

If there was no mod comment there before, there is one now.

You can tell from the first reply why we have locked this thread.

It was a repost.

I personally am torn about how I feel about reposts. I tend not to read past the first couple pages in off-topic, and sometimes topics like this are lost in the morass of nef posts. I would personally never get to see it unless it was reposted, oh well.

I think though, those using the bold letters to indicate repost might do the original poster a favor and put a link to the original thread, because on some threads that the repost patrol go to work on the posters question only vaguely deals with a prior post but has an entirely different purpose. If the repost patrol would put up the link then the readers could decide if the thread continues to have merit or not and reply to it.

................edit.................
Was curious if anyone has the link to the original thread? I looked to no avail, unless it is archived.
