the solution seems fairly obvious. if you can kick his ass i would do it, if not i would let your girlfriend know that it makes you uncomfortable and that you will leave her if she doesnt get rid of the other dude.

The fact that you complain here (for what bizarre reason ever)..does NOT change anything in your life....and it might also be a hint that you dont have the balls to say it to him in real life ? She might (MIGHT) be all over you seeing you 'fighting' for her....but dont beat 'em up..would achieve the opposite. (Despites i dont know if you'd be able to beat 'em up....)

Well, just from what information I can gather from this thread, you seem like the kind of guy who highly values the appearance of "being a man". In those terms, this guy is calling you out. He knows she's you GF and he's planning on sending her stuff for V-day means he's doesn't respect you at all, he thinks you are a chicken-sh!t who won't do anything.
Does that mean you should beat him with a bat? Not at all. But you have to give some thought into the face you present to the world. People will only give you respect if you earn it. The real thing you want here is to make people think you are perfectly willing to snap and beat their skull in, even if you aren't (or maybe especially if you aren't). When it comes down to stuff like this, that's what's important to some people. I have never had to "fight" for any of my former girlfriends like this, and no one that knew we were dating ever made a move. Even though I'm the last person to get in a fight, if people believe you will, that's just as good, if not better.
By the way, I'm kind of stretching things a little bit here, but it's still worth thinking about. Just from your picture I'm not sure I'd put you on my "don't mess with" list or anything. No offense intended, really.
