Ah, this must be your first experience with a military movie made in Hollywood. Here's a clue: POV.

i understand. thanks jjones. i just wish we have a movie that showed BOTH sides of the war. not necessarily an anti war movie like Platoon, but more like a movie that showed the people and soldiers of both sides, and ultimately showing that we are all the same that there is really no "evil" that we talk about. thin red line is closest i could think of but still it was still just one POV, that of the americans.

yes, of course! we're all the same! after all, i always see american troops stealing aid people send to ethiopia and using it to control the population...

yeah we are all the same. you forget all too easily how this nation was founded on. forceful colonizations for one.
I forget nothing of the sort. I won't let your revisionist history pervert the facts.
All new nations are founded on conquest. What's your point?
This was not an occupation, nor a colonization.
It was a relief effort that was being hijacked by Al-Queda and other independant factions.
Red Cross/ Crescent workers were being killed and harassed, UN relief workers were being overrun and mugged by this Adid's thugs.
We sent in the troops to keep order and get food to the people.
Al-Queda did their nasty work and suceeded in getting the public to chicken us out of there.
The public are sheep until it happens at home.

another point... those thousands of somalis were killed, but in an effort to reduce further deaths in that region. just like when we dropped the a-bombs on japan. sure a lot of people died as a direct rseult, but ultimately, it reduced the number of deaths.

doesn't compare Gopunk. I like you, but bad analogy.

well it depends on what you're looking at. it's a fine analogy for its purpose, which is to show that deaths can result in less overall deaths.

we never know how many would have died for sure. yeah, i know they say the Japanese would fight till the end... blah blah blah. But it can't be proven, it was only assumed. The numbers of deaths from Hiroshima - Nagasaki were very real.

in any case... lets not hijack..

i think you're getting on the nerves of quite a few of us. why don't you stop posting, since the needs of the many outweigh the needs of you.

😀 i think im needed in the "real" world more than you will ever be. hence, the needs of the many with me, still outweigh the needs of you guys against me. 😉

ok, then i think those 19 soldiers were needed more than those thousands of somalis ever will be.

of course you can't prove it...

but you also can't prove that we had a good reason for entering in WWII... it can't be proven that germany and japan would not have been defeated without us either. nor can it be proven that there would have been fewer deaths.

You sympathize for the 3,000 Somali dead? If any sympathy should be given to them it should be for them being stupid enough to follow the commands of the warlords. They chose to attack the U.S. soldiers. The U.S. soldiers did what was necessary to survive.

agreed

Well, most military movies, especially when the focus is upon a particular campaign, a specific military action, a batallion, etc. they most often give credit and thanks to the fighting men that participated. These movies happen to be from US film producers so of course the focus and POV is upon the US military men.

I've seen a couple of films such as you describe that you would like to see but the names of them escape me at the moment. Face it though, most movies are made to attract the public and they follow Hollywood formula. That means there's a good side and a bad side and the bad side mostly loses. If you really want to see a movie like you're talking about, do what hundreds of others have done: research and then write a screenplay about it. Other than that you're just blowing smoke.
