when the movie ends, in text it says something along the lines of: more than 3000 somali's and 19 US special forces died in the battle. this movie is dedicated to the 19 brave and courageous soldiers. 😕 huh??
did anyone cringe when they first read that?? what about the 3000 somali's?? 3 THOUSAND. is 19 US soldiers worth more than 3000 foreigners?

here's one i made up: a white rich girl was kidnapped by 2 male foreigners foreigners, US special forces killed 10000 innnocent foreigners, to get back the girl, but she was found dead by her captors. this movie is dedicated for that brave little girl that died in the horrific tragedy.

Well, the somalis can make their own movie. I think it's only natural that AMERICAN movie is about the AMERICAN soldiers.

Here come the flames.

actually heres better one: an aussie punched a female in the mouth, and he escaped to australia for refuge, US forces nuked the australian continent. this movie is dedicated to jane doe and her horrific altercation

Most of the 3,000 Somalis killed were herded into the cross-fire by the war-lords (to be used as shields) so they could get in close to the Army troops.

The 'Horn-of-Africa' politically fell apart when the Solviet Union collapsed economically - leaving a void in the leadership in the area.
By the way - that was an Al-Queda cell that did that, with weapons we provided.

The Somalis were trying to kill the Americans, not the other way around. Calling them innocent is far from the truth. Our soldiers went in to capture key people, and then leave. The 'innocent civilians' shot down a BH, and then the rest happened from there.

You sympathize for the 3,000 Somali dead? If any sympathy should be given to them it should be for them being stupid enough to follow the commands of the warlords. They chose to attack the U.S. soldiers. The U.S. soldiers did what was necessary to survive.

We didn't go there to kill them. We went there to make the world a better place. They attacked us, we defended ourselves.

what makes the US force anymore innocent?? the somali's i suppose were taking orders from the warlord, the US forces are taking orders from chief commander

The US soldiers were there in the first place to remove the warlords that were starving and killing their own people. When they went in to capture a few key people, they didn't go in with the intent to kill 3000 people. note, I didn't call them civilians because they weren't. THEY started shooting at US. We were only trying to get out.

The US forces were trying to bring peace to the country, to ensure that food-aid would be delivered like it should. The somalis were ruining their country, killing thousands. The Warlords were only interested in their own selfish goals.

In my book, that gives the US forces moral superiority over the somalis.

That warlord was killing innocent Somalis. He was hoarding much needed supplies from a dying people. He was selling equipment to terrorist groups. We went in to get him. His idiots attacked us, so we removed their ability to do so.

the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. to save themselves from killing the thousands of somali civilians, they should have just blew themselves up.
whats more worse? 3000 somali's died or 19 US died? ah darn it forgot, God is an american.

Unrelated to this situation entirely some dumb asses on these boards have said that one american life is worth more than any number of afghani/iraqi, etc. lives

You would make a lousy general. They were being attacked by armed men. Of course they defended themselves! Or do you suggest that if forces in the battlefield are horribly unbalanced (so that the underdig gets wiped off the map), the superior force should blow themselves up instead?

Ah, this must be your first experience with a military movie made in Hollywood. Here's a clue: POV.

i understand. thanks jjones. i just wish we have a movie that showed BOTH sides of the war. not necessarily an anti war movie like Platoon, but more like a movie that showed the people and soldiers of both sides, and ultimately showing that we are all the same that there is really no "evil" that we talk about. thin red line is closest i could think of but still it was still just one POV, that of the americans.

Who cares how much "skinnies" were killed. When the war is done you honor your tropps and your dead, not the enemy...

You really are clueless, aren't you? You're saying that if you were say, a police officer, and you go into somebody's house to save somebody, and 50 people jump out and start shooting at you, you should kill yourself? The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few right?

Get lost, kid.

what's worse, 3000 enemy dead or 19 friendly dead?

stop trying to give an anti-american spin to this, you're wrong, get over it.
