Locating Hardware Issue

Look ; Im not coming here for tech support ... I just need expert advice on locating a hardware issue.

I built a computer and it works generally fine except it just seems to throw up some things . I.E. if Norton is installed it wont even boot up ... there was a stop code error on it I just forget exactly what the code was . Also , when I put in City of Heroes and press install , it comes up with a 0xC0000005 . When doing Diablo II , I remember it saying "Please insert CD-Rom" even though it was inserted . The main CD Drive is a Sony DVD+-RW DRU something-er-other ...

Anyways ; I ran memTest86 for about 5 hours last night and nothing came up. Im considering Prime95'ing it . Ive reformatted 3 times so that cant be it . How would you go about locating a hardware issue?

At work now ... so Ill try to read up as often as possible .

It is important to record that "stop code error".....If you do a search at http://www.symantec.com/search/.. on stop code error...you will find articles including serveral with error lists for various Norton products. Its a good place to start....on your Gaming issues...that is a little more fuzzy...start by making sure you disable your Norton Virus protection when trying to install the games...it is also remotely possible that you do not have DMA set active on the the CD-ROM..many program CD's will not address properly if DMA is not set active on the drive...make sure it is...and...even though you believe you have no memory problems...if you are running more than one stick of memory ..pull all your memory and put 1 stick at a time back into the system and restart your system and see if you are still having problems...Good Luck.

Thanks so much Deathwalker ... Ill actually try all of that . im pretty desperate ...

Any more tidbits of information / guidance?
