Localized windows updates server

I get asked to fix lot of PCs for people and I was thinking it would be nice to have something like a WSUS server. From my understanding WSUS requires the end PCs to be on a Domain right? If yes, is there a way I could use it, or another solution to give updates to a PC that is not on a domain?

This would also be good as eventually XP updates will end, so I want to have a localized archive so I don't need to depend on MS keeping them online.

Would also be nice to have win98 and win2k updates though that is probably too late as I would of had to download them when they were still available. I don't care about ME as I usually just put 98 or 2k depending on the hardware.

If you do it at your own house I would setup a box with squid (a proxy server) and it can cache files, that way you only download a aprticular update once and then its cached.

Personally I run a smoothwall at my house and have squuid enabled with caching. It seems to work pretty good.
