I have searched and I can't find a site that displays wind data for my area(Chicago). If I could find a place that lists this and at what height it is taken, it would be great. Any ideas?

Sailing?

I use this experimental NOAA site. I use it for Lake Michigan weather. It gives hourly predictions for the comming week. The forcast pinpoints a 5 mile radius. This link links to a report is centered 1.6 miles from Wilmette harbor on a heading of 65* (the center of the course I race on). If you click The "Seven Day Forcast" link and scroll down to the "detailed Point Forcast" graphic, you can center the forcast pretty much anywhere in the Chicagoland area.

Another good site is My Cast, but you'll have to register. They also do pinpoint forcasts, 2 mile radius. http://my-cast.com/std/login.jsp

For a more "overall" look see Intellicast's wind forcasts. They're OK.

As an aide........
Any Chicagoland sailors out there? Interseted in Radio Controlled racing till the Skokie Lagoons freeze up. We have boats (six) and need more skippers. These are not toys. 7' LOA, 8' mast, 45 lbs of lead, vangs, outhauls, cunninghams, adjustable backstays, etc. If you want to keep your skills sharp, race against some top notch sailors, and you're an experienced racer PM me. Here's a link with a pickey:

Thanks guys, but it doesn't seem that any of them offer previous wind data. Is there any place that has a record of the wind data for say the past year?

Perhaps if we knew exactly what you are looking for we could be of more help.

If you're looking for averages, that's called a "Wind Rose" Here's one for Ohare

If you're lookiing for what the wind was at a specific time...that's more difficult.
Try the Chicago Tribune, search at the botton for specific days:

Thanks, I was just looking for a list of the wind average speeds and in what direction for maybe over a year period. That wind rose helps a lot, do they have one for the colder months as well?
