A friend e-mailed with a bit of an issue. He said that when he booted up his system and logged into Windows XP, a window popped up that basically stated "Your password will expire in XX days." and asks if you want to change it.
My first (and only) thought was the Local Security Policy was set to enforce a Maximum password age.
I went to look these settings up on my own system and was surprised to see that my Maximum password age was set to 42 days. While this is the default setting, I have held my present password much longer than 42 days.
Does anybody know why it is not being enforced? Is there another value that needs to be set in order for it to work?
The other settings are as follows:
Enforce password history - 0 passwords remembered
Maximum password age - 42 days
Minimum password age - 0 days
Minimum password length - 4 characters
Password must meet complexity requirements - Disabled
Store password using reversible encryption for all users in the domain - Disabled
