Local school rejects girl because of dreadlocks.

What a bunch of fvckers. This is in Whitefish, Montana. The school will not allow her to attend because she has dreadlocks and they feel it will distract her from an education and that she might get teased. They might as well not let anyone with acne, glasses, that look funny attend either. Morons like this piss me off.

Didn't read the article, because I just don't care, but all schools have a dress code. That's just how it is, get over it and move on.

Why even bother making a fuss? What's she going to gain by being in a class she does not even like?

She's just going to end up working in McDonalds.

Graduate... pfft. I didn't think you can graduate with a GPA of 2.0 or below.

So? My school has a policy that you cannot have hair past your shoulders, and no facial hair. It's a private school, so it's not a perfect match, but it's close. Hell, we have to wear ties and sport coats in the winter. If her hair is more important to her than an education, I doubt that she really cares that she's not in school.
 
How the hell can they kick out a student because they don't like her hair? They even said that it was because it was too unique, and pulled out that BS about how she could be ridiculed. I never saw any rules against uniqueness in my high school code of conduct. I was never suspended either. Texas schools aren't run by fashion police I guess.
 
We had a similar incident here locally that raised a big fuss with people.

A 6th grade girl wasn't allowed to go to school because she colored her hair in red, white, and blue stripes. This was on 09-11, BTW.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Schools in the USA have so many problems it's frightening...

actually, we do have a dress code at my high school. It's fairly conservative, but that's mostly for shirts...shorts seem to be quite short...😀😀😀

 
Well I'd be distracted if I saw insects crawling around her hair! Yes, most aren't like this, but I say a few insects crawling around in a class mates dreadlocks in my econ class last year.... was nasty as hell! The guy NEVER washed his hair.... not once during the semester. He didn't really stink though....

I will never get over seeing white guys with nasty ass dreadlocks...

Thats a bunch of crap.... I was a C & D student in high school. Its not something i am proud of. However I graduated college with a 3.5 average and I sure dont work at McDucks.

Wow! She's a beautiful lady. Nevertheless, I have to say that the given analogy is a weak one for the following reasons: The examples given are natural events, whereas dreadlock is man-made. I see nothing wrong with dressing codes and hair-do. It isn't very pleasant, but there are some things in life that we must suck up to for the better. . . . I don't see how not being allowed to display dreadlock on campus is an infringement of one's right or any essential aspect of one's being. Even our courts have codes pertaining to appearances (i.e., what is not acceptable and what is acceptable).

Well, not talking about your individual case, but statistically, your high school education was a waste of taxpayer money. 😀

 
I too agree with Citrix. Although it may not be the norm, I do know of students who performed terribly at high school. Their GPAs were in the 1s. But guess what! They scored really high in SAT and did very well at college.

High school here is a joke. People can even skip it and do well at college. Not that I'm encouraging such, but realistically one scoring low in high school GPA does not mean that they are doomed for McDonald's or its likes.

I broke the dress code deliberately when I was student, got sent home, too. But I put on more acceptable clothes and they let me back later the same day. Much like I was, she's just doing this for attention.

This 'non-conformity' BS is only deliberate defiance and deviance wrapped in the veneer of 'individuality' and 'free expression'. I know, I was HEAVY into non-conformity stuff when I was 14 or 15; punk bands, piercings, tattoos (long before they became 'fashionable'), and all.

God I was an idiot. I guess it was cool at the time....or at least I thought I was cool. Being cool and merely thinking you're cool are often divergent things.
