Seeing the price drops now. 5900X $399, 5950X $549. Makes for in interesting price point for the 5800X3D
Its funny that you say low end, since the 5950x competes very nicely with Intels 12900k high end. I think everybody agrees they trade blows competitively.AMD has probably put out signs that Raphael is coming soon. Time to clear out the channel, especially of high-end products since it appears that AMD wants to use AM4 as their low-end product showcase.
I think what he means is that AMD is shifting their focus away from AM4 and maybe Zen 4 is so good that it makes 5950X look low-end? Anyway, good times if 5950X becomes low-end. More powerful CPUs being affordable can only be a good thing. Its funny that you say low end,

What's your prediction on the Zen 3 to Zen 4 IPC increase?Zen4 will make 12900K and 5950X look silly.

See below.
Yes, albeit in the Zen3D thread. Anyway, what I think is going on is:
AMD replaces 5800X, 5900X, 5950X with Raphael
AMD replaces 5600X with 5800X3D, 5700X
AMD introduces 5500, 5600 (non-X) as low-end
AM5 becomes the high-end socket, AM4 becomes the low-to-midrange socket. Though AM5 will also serve as the pro business socket as well (Rembrandt Pro) and possibly other functions via Rembrandt. Eventually AM5 + Rembrandt (or a successor) may replace all the AM4 CPUs, but only once DDR5 becomes more common.
AMD is launching Rembrandt APUs for mid-range. They will be on AM5. Thankfully, you can build a somewhat affordable DDR5 platform, albeit with only 16gb of RAM.
If only AMD released the R5 5500 two months ago! I fear the "budget rig mindshare advantage" has already gone to Intel.
Surely, if I had known about those CPUs earlier, I wouldn't have bothered to invest in 12th-gen Intel for some budget rigs.
Then again, I don't expect to see "street prices" for the 5500 CPU, like the 3100 and 3300X and 3500(X) before them, to actually sell for as low as $100-110 MSRP.
As noted in the other thread, I'm willing to believe these are Cezanne with a busted IGP.
So they just keep collecting the rejected CPUs until there are enough to release a new SKU? Why not just release as and when they fail validation?Yes, it seems so. The plot thickens.

Whacha gonna do with all those powerful beasty CPUs?I would love to get a few more if they ever drop below the $500 mark.
That I understand. But do you intend to have multiple PC's doing such jobs? For instance, start encoding on one 5950X then move to another to start rendering and finally to a third 5950X PC to do photo editing while the previous two finish their tasks?Photo editing / video renders and encoding. Takes lots and lots of powerful cores!!
Yes, I do that now.. I have 6 rigs running at any given time. Will soon be 7 soon as I find time to get my 5950x rig put together. Most of them do work using Adobe Premiere Pro or Kdenlive and some times I sneak in some work using Handbrake or WinFF. All of which maxes out all of my cores. I try not to muck around with the rigs while rendering or encoding otherwise I have gotten errors and artifacting or corruption in the photo's / videos depending how large the job is and how high the quality and bit rates are ect..That I understand.
