I also think it'd be great to have another Canadian team... just not the Preds.😉

Do you think that Winnipeg could get their arena renovated to hold more than 15,000? Or would that be large enough?
I'm not sure it would be large enough but it would have to be... since it is a brand new facility located in the downtown area they would probably just use it. Big enough for the Moose 😛

You specifically mentioned moving the team to KC. That's the only likely destination, at the moment, what with Boots as an investor.

Not picking on Vandy... I'm just stating that the ticket prices are low, which means it's quite likely that the few fans that go to Vandy games can afford to also go to Predators games... and I don't believe any of the game times conflict (afternoon vs. evening).

I do have a clue what I'm talking about... let's not get into personal attacks, 'k? I'm an MTSU graduate, and unfortunately, they're having trouble bringing in the fans as well. Those that do go to the games find that the ticket prices are very affordable. And, like Vandy games, the schedules don't conflict with Preds games.

The Titans games aren't cheap, so I can see where someone might not be able to afford both the Titans and Preds. That said, if price isn't a problem, the games rarely overlap.

Yeah, Wikipedia is certainly an authoritative source on the topic... Guess we'll have to see what this year brings as far as whether they are among the "leagues worst".

No, I have no other comment on the financial situation. I've already said what needed to be said, above: if the team hits 14,000 per game, they'll break even, but have a salary floor team... if they hit 16,000 per game, they'll have a mid-salary-cap team... and if they sell out every night, they'll have a high-salary-cap team. That was stated by the new owners... not something from my own logic.

KC = It doesn't matter what type of city or if the preds can survive there. Obviously someone thinks they can and the team could end up there in several years. That's the main point. There's somewhere to go if they fail here.

I didn't only post Wiki. I also posted an ESPN article that says the same. But you for some reason don't bother replying to that? Go figure. Roll your eyes at yourself.

I don't think 34,000 fans a game w/ 12,000+ season tickets is low for what equates to an ivy league type school with a generally horrid football team!

Do the math:

The Nashville Predators tallied up 216 points in the last two seasons, fifth most in the NHL, the team will still have a real cash loss of $27 million during that time. Additionally, that loss is despite receiving the most money in the league from revenue sharing. Over the last five years, the team has lost over $60 million.

Our average regular season attendance this past season was 13,589, up from the year before, but still 2,000 below the NHL average. A low turnout, combined with a low ticket price results in a poor financial situation.

Our records show today that corporate support for the Nashville Predators makes up about 35% of our season ticket base. The average in other markets is around 60%. During our first two years, approximately 4,000 businesses owned season tickets. Today, only 1,800 businesses have season tickets.

So do you REALLY believe that if we increase sales from 13,589 to 14,000 = "if the team hits 14,000 per game, they'll break even".

"Metro Nashville governmental officials told NewsChannel 5 that consecutive seasons means consecutive years, and that last season was the first with less than 14,000 paid attendance."

So we've obviously had OVER 14,000 fans in the past. But according to the NHL and the current owner, the Nashville Predators have lost 70 million dollars in the last 5 years they've been here.

Honestly, I hope they stay. We sponsor them and they're great for the town. I just can't see this new group being able to do anything different over the long haul. It'll work for a few years, but how can they really turn around a 70 million dollar loss over 5 years into a profit in the next 5? It's going to be really hard.

Trey, are you getting FST's this year? I got mine, and have moved closer to Seth over in 304.

Nah, my budget's too tight, since my wife's a stay-at-home mom. Besides, she wouldn't let me go to that many games, anyway. I'd consider splitting one with a bunch of people... but I can't afford a full one on my own.

That said, I'll support them as much as I can... one ticket at a time. 🙂

Burnside is a Preds hater. Pull up any of his articles. He's always going to talk trash about Nashville.

I never said Leipold could make it work. He threw a bunch of money at salaries and marketing (marketing which wasn't directed towards corporate support, which was what the Preds needed).

Actually, it was around 13,815... we were 185 full-paid tickets per game short of the 14,000 mark.

Yep, you're correct. Nashville's businesses need to step up. Otherwise, it'll be difficult for the team to remain here. But... I already mentioned that in my previous posts.

I dunno... it's their calculations, not mine. I guess it depends on whether the new management can spend wisely or not. I have no idea. I'm hopeful that they can... but I'm not gonna bet on it.

Either Metro's got it wrong, or NewsChannel5's got it wrong (or both)... Nashville's had the following attendance figures:

2007: 15259
2006: 14428
2004: 13177
2003: 13228
2002: 14788
2001: 15824

If either Metro or WTVF said that last season is the first to have less than 14,000 paid attendance, then they're factually incorrect... they didn't have it in 2003 OR 2004. (Although Nashville had 15,259 attendance in 2006-2007, we didn't have 14,000 FULL-PAID admissions.)

Yep... it's certainly not going to be easy. Breaking 14,000 this year shouldn't be difficult at all. Breaking 16,000 EVERY year (which is what I think we'll need to stay successful) will be VERY difficult... at least, over the short haul. In time, the kids who grew up with it will be paying fans... if the Preds are still here by then.
