So if I stop posting, send flowers. Or I'll post pics if it's a good shoot....as soon as I get my cameras up.:$

Maybe I need to start another security camera thread.:hmm: Nah, I'll just put it here.

I want 2 quality high res cameras, motion detection recording, a good quality recorder that I can review on my local machine. Don't care about wireless or care about internet based storage, ATM (but I may later). My office is only 20'X20' so I want on camera facing the door and one 90 degrees off of that for a side view.

I understand that that to get good quality, the equipment may have some of my "don't cares" anyway.

Suggestions other than a proper thread title or firearms? Got the 2nd covered...several times.;)

Thanks.

What was stolen?

I suggest putting a sign up that says, "No more than $50 cash available" or something like they do in gas stations.

I suggest researching POE cameras. (power over ethernet). Wireless still needs to get power from somewhere. There's only X bandwidth in the air, so if you go for a wired solution, you're saving your wireless router trouble since video takes a lot of packets.

I can't recommend any because I've not bought any myself, but will be soon enough. Ubiquiti has some nice ones that operate at 24V, but aren't compatible with most software... You want something based on a common standard so you can view and store the data easily anywhere. You also want to store it somewhere that's locked up and not obvious....preferably in a somewhat fire-resistant part of the building.

For easy setup, look at the 2-4 camera kits + dvr you can buy from Samsclub or amazon.

Cameras?! Are you some sort of sissy??

You already have firearms,... so, just start shooting in every direction. Eventually, the asshole who robbed you should get hit.

The 1st time, a lot of cash. We're mostly a cash industry but this company has screwed themselves over greed. Long story short, they set up to receive peoples disability checks. The goal is to ensure that they get paid. The results is that the customer wants the rest of their $$...duh. I'm guessing $10K+ the 1st time around. The 2nd time, no where near as much because the checks are a once/mo thing. Another of their offices got hit on the same day. It ain't rocket science...

That don't sound good...

I know there are a couple of people here that sound knowledgeable on this stuff. Me, I'd be calling somebody local. The reason why is that here, everyone has an opinion.

Having said that, http://www.homesecuritystore.com/p-...nel-hd-sdi-dvr-kit-w-two-ir-dome-cameras.aspx But I don't know if this is good shit or ho-hum shit or what. Shows that the kit will be back in stock today.
I don't mind running wire/installing software or paying top $$ for the equipment. I just hate paying someone to install it if I can.

My guess is that it's going to get more complicated with all of the choices available and I may have to call someone in..

That's the 1st plan but if I go down, I want a recording.

Reference point.
After hearing the men yell to kill him, Bayazes shot one 30-round magazine of .223-caliber bullets before retreating to his bedroom to reload, he later told officers.

You probably want surveillance right outside the door too in order to get prepared.

I just bought one of these, it was on sale ($400). I haven't had time to run the wiring just yet, so I only tested in inside (light and dark). Works good enough so far.

I haven't used it enough to say "get this one" but this is basically what you need. There are 1080p versions and larger HDDs etc. PoE cameras, if you go wireless you still have to provide power, this lets you do data+power in one cable.

One thing about motion detection, no system is perfect. You can tweak it, but it will often start recording because a shadow or something like that. So don't setup alerts, you'll get spammed, or you set the sensitivity so low it doesn't record when you need it to. Use it as an "after the fact record of the incident", not a "gonna catch them in the act and call the cops" when you aren't there.

It can be monitored on a TV, PC, or remotely if you set it up.

And after 2 days I'll stop watching the monitor. There's a fair amount of foot traffic. Not to mention my 500 or so customers that come in every month.

Mostly concerned about picture quality. The bank across the street got robbed last year and you could barely make out the guys face. My sister's jewelry store got robbed some years ago. Awesome clarity. She spotted the guy from the video standing in the crowd of gawkers . Oops.:p

Sounds like I live in a crime zone....

I have not seen personally but someone in my office just recently came across a Dropcam installation. www.dropcam.com.

HD quality video according to what i've read and cloud storage (likely for fee) which you don't care for yet. I'm not sure what recording utils are provided.

Looked at those after another thread here and liked them but it probably would kill my internet. Can't have it affect my posting here.

Just want to make sure I get the best quality picture for the $$.

That's why the camera's are what's most important. Then, you have to have a DVR that can handle the bandwidth and that has the storage capacity for the camera's. You can do the install, you just need the right components.

Pic quality is really good, if you are very concerned about it and less concerned about $ there are 1080p setups as well, just make sure the storage is there for it. Good luck!

I don't want to pay $200 for a $70 camera. $200 for a $200 is fine if that's what I'm getting.

SD storage and continuous recording instead of motion?

Thanks. If some asshole shoots me, I want video. If I wet my pants, you want video....:$

Dude...security box. No one gets in or out without you pushing the button to open the doors.
Someone comes in and pulls out a gun...they're locked in until the cops come.
Everything gets done through a bullet-proof glass panel.

It DOES sound like you live/work in a high crime area...spend the money to take precautions...Or move to some place safer...like Oakland. :p

How much would increasing your bandwidth cost or even a second ISP line? I would assume you can view it online so you wouldn't need another computer if you got a second line

Yeah - sounds like a wonderful freakin place to live.

Just put one of those signs out front saying that the guy next door doesn't have a gun.
I do have a NRA sticker on the front glass.

Not going to that extreme but I just called the owner of the other company and he's having one installed today. Been doing this 27 years and I only know of 3 loan offices that have been robbed at gunpoint (the one twice).

They payday advances are a different story. I swear one gets robbed every week.

I'll pass on Oakland. What do you think about Detroit?

Cost wouldn't be that much. Hiding the dvr isn't a problem but fire would be.

This is a great place. We only get snow once every 5 years or so. Gridlocks us for a month but the other 4 years 11 months are great.

What you got planned for later today?

:p

digging clams at the beach, burning some meat on the grill at said beach, hopefully out of the rain. I can talk to you this evening, or tomorrow.

Oh yeah Manimal, no baller G6. My plane is one year older than me :p
Last time I flew to SC it took 11 hours and 225 gallons, one way. Avgas is outrageous these days.

Cool! Just got a Synology here myself. What did the camera's run you?

This is the second Synology I've set up. The latest software is a huge improvement over the previous version but I still found it clunky to work with. Would be interested in hearing your impressions of setting up the cameras. I imagine you know you need additional software.
