You mean it's blinking saying that it's disconnecting? Or do you have it set to always display the network status, and it's blinking when there is traffic?

If you are using file sharing then that would explain it....

The protocol used in Windows file sharing is very "chatty". It does send out alot of packets, espcially if that particular computer is the browse master. Thus making the status lights blink.

Just turn off the notification icon in the network card properties.

Why would you reinstall the network card drivers due to a feature being active and working properly?

I'll elaborate a bit...

this is not IN the ICON itself. This is those little Winbloz XP bubbles/windows that popup - like the little callouts in comics (do they still have those?) where the text is placed, and the little point going back to the characters mouth. It's THAT thing that continously blinks RAPID FIRE on and off...the network cable is snugly plugged in, the router is plugged in fine, both the puter AND the router have been rebooted.

Does everyone understand that it's not the two little computers that are blinking? It's the buble that tells you you're disconnected/connected..w.hatever....? Sorry, I didn't make that completely clear earlier...I was in a big hurry :D

Anyhow, any ideas Y that might be happening? I can ping, steadily, other computers on the network...so I'm left comfuzzled....

Is it actually saying that it's disconnected, or is it going too quickly for you to read it? I'm not sure if the disconnect message is the only one that can appear.

Sounds like either the port or the cable or the remote port may be bad. Even though you're able to ping, the connection may actually be failing. If it fails fast enough, the link might be maintained because your system won't lose its IP quickly, and the switch would still have the MAC address in its ARP table (if it's used on a hub then it doesn't matter beyond electrical signal, MAC isn't even an issue).

Really no way to test it besides replacing cable, changing port on the switch/hub, or replacing the NIC. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling first, since that'd be the simplest thing.
