local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration[SOLVED]

Ran into a problem that's got me scratching my head. I have a room outside(same power circuit as my house) that has my steamlink and a PC.

I've been using powerline networking for the last few months without any issues whatsoever. I just upgraded to a faster motherboard/cpu/memory etc. Fresh version if Windows 7 64-bit. However when I plug the PC up to the powerline networking box it will not connect and after troubleshooting it tells me "local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration". I've tried unchecking ipv4 like people have suggested, tried unplugging everything and also tried installing a new NIC thinking that would fix the issue. I then took the new PC into the house and tried powerline networking inside, it worked without any issues. Took it back outside and it doesn't work, gives me the valid IP config error.

I have a feeling there's something I'm not doing right and will keep googling but wanted to see if any one has had any luck fixing this? Most topics on the web don't show great results. I can plug my old PC to the powerline networking and it works perfectly fine outside...?!

FWIW, the router I have is provided by my ISP, sbg6580. I am going to upgrade soon because the wifi is pretty horrible.

Just tried reinstalling windows on a whim, still same issue. Also factory reset my router. WTF is the issue?

do you have custom ip settings on your connection ?

not that i know of. i don't have anything customized on the network aside from setting up a network name and password for wifi.

i'm reading about this bonjour service that people are posting about. i'm going to try disabling that when i get home, if i can find it under services.msc

also going to try to see if internet works in safe mode, i have not tried that yet.

my steam link and older PC are working just fine out there but this new PC i'm not getting anywhere.

I brought the outside PC inside to hook it up in the house on powerline networking. Works 100% without any problems. I take the PC outside in the room and use powerline networking, nothing at all. However, I plug up my steamlink outside using the same EXACT same powerline/cables/etc and it works perfectly?

Just doesn't make any sense. How does the PC work inside the house on powerline networking but when I take it outside it doesn't work at all, yet I know I have live internet out there because my old PC and steamlink connect without any issues.

I'm stumped. I tried safe mode outside, nothing. Reformatted windows, nothing. PCI network card, nothing.

I finally spent some time on it tonight going down the list marking things out. I think it's a power supply issue or power/wire structure in the out house in general.

Powerline networking works great on steamlink until the new PC(480w PSU) powers on. As soon as i turn the new PC on the ethernet pretty much dies. As soon as I unplug the new PC, back online no lag. I also tried a small treadmill I have, similar results.

I was hoping it's just a PC/power supply issue as it's an AM2/8GB/500GB/480w again PSU but I guess it's the actual grid when it was built :( It's only a ten year home and even has a separate breaker outside for the room. Weird. The old PC, steam link and even a small heater seem to work lag free.

Could it by chance be the powerline adapters? They are about 4 years old or so. TP LINK AV200 I believe.

Power line adapters are hit and miss. They work great for some but horrible for others. I've never used them myself. I'd rather go to the trouble of installing cat5e. At least then I know I can always rule out physical connection issues going with that route.

Thank you sir, I'll give it a shot this evening. Really wondering if I'm putting too much power out there on the circuit(not sure how a 480w PSU is too much) outside. Wondering if some newer PL adapters would solve the problem.

The powerline adapter should not care a lot about draw on the power circuit, but it will care about noise introduced on the circuit by other things that are connected.

Is it a nice name brand power supply or a not so nice power supply.

I wouldn't be surprised in the new PSU is introducing a lot of noise to the power circuit when it's on causing the powerline adapter to loose connection.

Can you try a different PSU?

I'm going to pick one up this week and try. It's about an 8 year old PSU. Also a no name brand...

I'm going to try the power supply first, if that doesn't help I'll try some new PL adapters. I have a little faith in fixing the issue not that I THINK I've narrowed it down.

I'm assuming that's why steamlink(youtube music) cuts out when I'm running on the treadmill. It's all starting to make sense. I'm a dummy, I'll update the thread tonight, found a 430w thermaltake at a local best buy for $40.

It happens. Powerline adapters can be a pita.

Noise filters for some of the appliances/computers MIGHT help but most are just a waste of money.

GREAT NEWS! it's fixed. a new PSU solved everything. can't believe i've stressed and spent this much time on it before trying that. Thanks for all the suggestions and help :beer;
