local area connection 2

I removed one NIC & installed another. When I configured the static IP I got a message about the address belonging to another network adapter (which was already removed). Any ideas how to delete the local area connection? If I look at my network properities all I see is Local area connection 2. In device manager nothing appears except the NIC I installed--no hidden devices.

Didn't renew the IP because it's static. The reason I want to rid it is because when I install a virtual machine (VMware & only on this machine) it's filling up the firewall logs as a detected spoof. I have several VM's on other machines and it's not a problem

It will retain configured network settings. Toss the card back in, unconfigure it and it will free up that IP. Another reason why DHCP can avoid certain headaches.
