Loaned out money now person is back pedaling

I'm looking for opinions and options. I loaned out a small sum of money to a semi close friend. He said he would pay me back 2 days after he got his check. 8 days later I have been on him to get me the money but i keep getting stories. Do i have any legal recourse to recoup my money in this situation? Could I go to small claims court? The amount was for $180. Also no i don't want the guy hurt or anything like that i just want to try to get my money back. Any options other than to suck it up and count it as a loss?

You don't have to hurt the guy, you just need to project the threat of pain. Some imagination and choice words will get you back $180 if you play it smart. 🙂

Corner him alone, hit him in the stomach with a sock full of soap bars, then look at it like this: you just paid $180 to beat someone with a sock full of soap bars.

You're likely not getting the money back, but if you beat him at least he won't ask you again.

Continue to ask for the money, or settle for something of value he has. I bet he has plenty of stuff that could make up for a $180 debt.

If he's a scumbag, realize that you should not be lending scumbags money.
If he's a decent sort, then he is probably scrounging for money right now and is kinda desperate. If you can, call him and offer him a payment plan of paying back $X per week/month.

like a car windshield, for instance.

I don't want to go that route yet but his excuse is his boss hasn't given him his paycheck so to "help" i sent him the links to how to file in small claims court and told him if he has any questions i would gladly explain how small claims court works. So i am hoping this might be at least one non violent route to take.

It would have been wise to ask for advice here, prior, to loaning a semi-friend or best friend or family member or that Nigerian guy money.

well i guess you considering legal action on him tells us how close of friends you are. small claims court i believe is where this would be handled. i am sure if you threaten him with that the money will appear
