Loading XP on a SATA HDD

Hi .. Just got a new PC and its my 1st time loading XP Pro SP2 on a SATA HDD .. I got finally BIOS to detect the HDD after changing my BIOS settings under the SATA config settings. Its was on enhanced then changed it to compatible then i detected the HDD. Then when installing OS it installs but then about 20 remaining a error it says something like did not install file "registry32 with 1x0080x0 and something about memory failed" when clicking OK it continues but as per normal but when i want to instal the Mobo disk or anything it doesn't allow me to it just ends task, oh yes when installing XP it said i had 4 partitions .. i would like to do a Fdisk and format it how do i do a FDISK ... If the hard drive has partitions, you can delete them during Windows Setup. pic of the screen to watch for. After deleting them, don't continue Windows Setup. Instead, press the F3 key twice to exit, and then start Windows Setup a second time and carry on. Also, make sure no extra hard drives, memory-card readers or USB drives are plugged in during Windows Setup, just your boot drive.

First, however, the error that you're getting may be the RAM. It could be faulty, or it could just not be getting enough voltage. What are your system's full specs, including brand & model of the RAM, and what voltage did you set your motherboard to provide to the RAM (or did you leave it on auto)?

That does not sound like it is a SATA problem. I agree with Mech, memory could be an issue. I know there is a bootable CD that you can make with memory tests on it, I need to find that.....

I always used Fdisk on my MSdos boot floppys, but I dont know how to get just it nowadays, I always just partition it during the windows install.

Hi thanx guys for responding, i will check that out later when i am at home .. I tried deleting the partition but it show just ti unpartition but still with the size of the partition and as u said i must press F3 which i did not do and wil do ... i dont know about the voltage thing ...

Any thoughts about Vista ???? Should i install was thinking of getting a copy but i am really thinking of either 64Bit edition of Vista or Xp Pro ???

1) run Memtest86 to see if your RAM is currently giving errors

2) report what brand and model the RAM is, and what voltage (VDIMM) it's getting from the motherboard. If it's RAM that wants higher-than-normal voltage, then you may need to change the motherboard's settings in the ADVANCED > JUMPERFREE CONFIGURATION menu to make it happy.
