I have a hardware RAID 5 controller... Can I load the OS onto the RAID 5 array along with my data (different partitions)? Or is that a big no-no? Should the array just be used for data? Please advise my novice brain.

You can put whatever you wish on it really... Doesn't matter in the least. Why would you think that it would be a no-no to do so? (hehe. that sounded funny)

RAID is nothing new, only to the ide/sata people the past 2-3 years. SCSI RAID has been used in enterprise for years.

Theres no problem in loading os into an raid array.

RAID 5 here, made out of 4 200GB drives. 20GB C: for OS and programs.
120GB temp drive for video editing.
The remainder is storage space for anything else.

Seems to work just fine.

i just bought an adaptec 6 port sata raid 5 controller. i will also setup a similar config like jeff. i'll probably partition the raid into two. 20gb for os/programs, and the rest for storage.
